From the Chemin du Panorama, you can watch the ferry cross between the banks of the Seine. In Duclair, these views meet unusual church architecture, a Renaissance château and traces of the river’s industrial past. You can shape a stay around cultural history, scenery and routes on foot or by bike.

Heritage in Duclair

The Château du Taillis has been protected as a historic monument since 1994. It is considered the only surviving building of its type in the Italian Second Renaissance style in Seine-Maritime. The Église Saint-Denis is divided into three naves, an arrangement considered unusual. The château draws attention to a particular expression of the Renaissance, while the church’s distinctive three-part layout offers a different perspective.

The Musée Août 44 – « L’enfer sur la Seine » offers another historical perspective. Staged displays and thousands of authentic objects from the period recreate the fighting and the subsequent liberation. The Circuit découverte de Duclair tells the story of the town through 11 information panels. The Festival des Arts Mêlés is dedicated to artistic performance, including painting, sculpture and street theatre. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the event dates in advance.

Routes and the Seine

The Chemin du Panorama is a walking route from Duclair town centre to a landscaped viewpoint; it is listed as 4 km long. Along the way, you can watch the ferry cross between the two banks of the Seine. The Duclair ferry was first put into service on the Seine in 1860. If you plan to include a ferry crossing, check the timetable.

For a bike ride, the Parcours Vélo Patrimoine along the Voie Verte offers views of the heritage of Le Trait, Yainville and Duclair. It is approximately 22 km for the round trip. The Route des Fruits is another cycling route, running through orchards between Jumièges and Duclair. The two routes have different focuses: the heritage of the three named towns on one, and the orchards between the two endpoints on the other. As route conditions can change, check the route before setting out.

Landscape, industry and local speciality

The Archipel des Eaux Mêlées is a landscaped park on the banks of the Seine, on the site of the former Mustad & Son factory. Two floodwater expansion areas in the park were created in the early 2000s. The river setting, the site’s former factory use and its water management all contribute to the character of this place.

The arboretum in the Archipel des Eaux Mêlées features 20 notable tree species, each with an explanatory plaque. The selection of plants may change. Duclair duck is also part of the local culinary tradition: it is a cross between domestic ducks and wild mallards and is associated with the speciality « canard à la Denise ».
