Discover Sotteville-Lès-Rouen through a range of activities: a self-guided quiz walk exploring local history, guided walks featuring archive photographs and explanations from volunteers, and a trail focused on local biodiversity. Atelier 231 adds street art and public art to the mix. When planning, you can therefore choose according to your interests: historical topics, artistic work, or local wildlife and plant life.
Local history as a quiz or guided walk
The Rallye patrimoine is a self-guided walk with a quiz, designed to help you discover historic Sotteville. It offers an independent way to explore the town’s past. “Sotteville au fil du temps” features guided walks that bring together archive photographs, contextual information and explanations from volunteers. Both activities focus on local history, but present it differently: a quiz walk on the one hand, and a guided walk with images on the other. You can choose the format that best suits your interest in exploring independently or with a guide.
Atelier 231 and street art
Atelier 231 is one of France’s 13 Centres Nationaux des Arts de la Rue et de l’Espace Public (CNAREP), and a place where street art and public art are created. Guided tours of Atelier 231 are available; dates and access arrangements may vary. For the so-called “Visites de chantier,” the public is often invited free of charge to observe work in progress by companies in residence there. Dates for individual visits vary. Visitors can therefore get a glimpse of Atelier 231 on a guided tour or observe work in progress. Viva Cité, a three-day street art festival, once used Sotteville-Lès-Rouen, its neighbourhoods, spaces and unusual locations as performance venues. The festival was organised in partnership with the municipality; Atelier 231 had been responsible for the artistic direction since 2002.
A nature theme along the biodiversity trail
The Parcours biodiversité runs through Bois de la Garenne, the Valentine Allorge area and the park of the Centre hospitalier du Bois-Petit in Sotteville-Lès-Rouen. It explores local wildlife and plant life, as well as their habitats, ways of life and diets. It offers a specific thematic focus for visitors who want to explore nature not only by looking at individual species, but also at their habitats. The trail guide is available in print and digital formats. When preparing your visit, you can choose whichever format is most convenient for you.
Choose a hotel based on your planned activities
Tailor your search to the activities you plan to enjoy during your stay. If guided tours or “Visites de chantier” are important to you, check dates and access arrangements before booking.
