Belmont-Sur-Rance offers several ways to shape a stay: the architectural history of the Collégiale Sainte-Marie, menhir statues, trails along the Rance and a cultural walk through the medieval village. Guided tours, hiking routes and a digital walk each offer a different focus.

Church architecture and historical landmarks

The Collégiale Sainte-Marie, now the parish church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, was completely rebuilt from 1515 to 1524. A decree dated June 14, 1929, gave partial historic monument protection to the church and bell tower. The two dates mark different chapters: the construction phase in the early 16th century and the later protection of the named parts.

The Pont vieux over the Rance dates from the 12th century and was modified in the 14th century. This brings two distinct building histories into focus: the medieval bridge and its later modification, and the complete rebuilding of the church centuries later. The Chapelle du Sériguet also preserves a historical account. It houses a stone slab engraved in 1620 that tells of a fight between a father and his son, who died defending their faith. The chapel was also intended to become a place of pilgrimage for Catholics.

Menhir statues and cultural walks

The Conservatoire des statues-menhirs de Belmont offers guided tours about the menhir statues and local history spanning several millennia. As access is seasonal, check visiting options in advance. The hiking loop “Sur les traces des statues-menhirs” has clearly defined length and stops: it is nine kilometers long, starts in the hamlet of Saint-Vincent and passes six statues.

The guided tour and the hiking loop explore the subject in different ways: the tour focuses on the statues and the region’s long history, while the loop features six statues along a nine-kilometer route. This lets you choose between a guided tour and a route with a stated distance, without treating the two offerings as equivalent.

The “Balade numérique à Belmont sur Rance” leads through the medieval village and is a cultural walk lasting about an hour and a half. It differs both from the menhir theme and from the hiking loop described by its distance in kilometers. With the “Balades des grands causses” mobile app, you can explore the route at your own pace. Check whether the app is available before your trip.

Along the Rance and other activities

The “Par Monts et par Vaux” loop includes a ford and woodland paths along the Rance. The warmer months are recommended for crossing the ford. If you choose this loop, take this seasonal advice into account when planning.

Karting Plus offers a different kind of activity: the facility in Belmont has a 1,500-meter racetrack. For a taste of local food and craft production, visit Les Paysans du Rance. The producers’ shop is also a cooperative market stall run by farmers and craftspeople, supporting local production in both areas.

Plan your visit and accommodation

The tourist office offers guided tours of the Collégiale in July and August, as well as during the Journées du Patrimoine. Check the specific dates before your trip. When planning, it is also worth distinguishing between architectural and church history, menhir statues, the village walk and trails along the Rance: each offers a different focus for your stay, with different duration or distance details.
