Almont-Les-Junies lies above the Lot Valley and offers panoramic views of the river. The village brings together the landscape and two distinctive themes: the GR 65, part of the Way of St James, passes through on its way to Santiago de Compostela, and Stockfish features both in the visitor experience and in the local cuisine.

Hiking Trails and the Lot Valley

The GR 65 runs through Almont-Les-Junies between Noailhac and Flagnac. Among other places, it passes through Eyniès, Les Clémenties and Les Breffinies. The “Au pays du Stockfish” route has a different focus: it leads from the fish-drying rack to the banks of the Lot. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their landmarks—one follows a sequence of villages, while the other goes from the rack to the riverbank. Trail conditions may vary by season; check them before setting out. Circuit No. 12 also passes through Almont-Les-Junies. It also lists Port d’Agrès and Grand-Vabre as destinations. Check route conditions before cycling.

Stockfish and Estofinado

The Stockfish visitor centre includes a replica of a fish-drying rack used in Norway, a picture wall and an information table about the history of Stockfish. Here, a tangible object, visual material and historical context are presented side by side.

Stockfish also features in the local cuisine: Estofinado is a culinary speciality of Almont-Les-Junies. In the 1990s, the village was recognised as the “capital of Estofinado”. This traditional dish from Aveyron is made with potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, walnut oil, crème fraîche and Stockfish. The theme comes up both in its historical context and as an ingredient in a regional dish.

Donkey Walks

Les ânes de Monédies offers private circular walks, where you head out alone with your donkey. Options range from day walks to multi-day tours. The one-day “Balade à dos d’âne” includes a picnic in nature and an introduction to grooming and leading the donkey.

Before each departure, you receive instructions on caring for the donkey. Les ânes de Monédies also provides a detailed topoguide and route tips for independent tours. Check availability and make arrangements before your trip.

For walks by people with limited mobility, a Randoline, a cart pulled by a donkey, is available. Check its suitability in advance.

Places of Interest and Local History

The Pont de Brousseyrou is one of the places of interest in Almont-Les-Junies. The remains of the Moulin de Bérilles are evidence of the village’s history and its former role as a place of transit and exchange. Together, they highlight a named attraction and a reminder of the village’s former role.
