Cabestany combines Romanesque art with a network of trails that you can access on foot or by bike from various points in the town. Two particular highlights can help you plan your time between culture and the outdoors: the Centre de Sculpture Romane, with its permanent exhibition, and the walking trails, including a 17-kilometre loop for more athletic hikers. This lets you choose where to stay based on whether you are mainly interested in Romanesque art or in getting outdoors for a longer excursion.

Romanesque art at the Centre and in the church

The Centre de Sculpture Romane offers a permanent exhibition on Romanesque art, as well as guided tours and narrated visits. The facility covers 1,100 square metres and includes exhibition rooms, a documentation centre, educational workshops and an auditorium with 50 seats. The visit is therefore not limited to the exhibition rooms: the Centre also has areas for documentation, educational workshops and events in the auditorium.

Another landmark of Romanesque heritage is the Church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges. It was built between the 11th and 12th centuries, and its original architecture is Romanesque. The Cabestany tympanum has been listed as a protected monument since 15 November 1948. After being displayed at the MNAC in Barcelona from 19 March to 28 June 2026, it was back at the Church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges on 21 August 2026. As display arrangements may change, check before your visit whether the tympanum is still on view there.

Walking trails and an area for outdoor activities

The municipal trail network includes a large 17-kilometre loop, suitable for more athletic hikers. This specifically stated distance offers a useful guide if you are looking for a longer hike. Cabestany’s trails can be accessed on foot or by bike from various points in the town. You can therefore choose between the longer loop described here and other trails in the municipal area, without assuming that every route has the same length or difficulty.

The Sainte Camille basin offers a different kind of outdoor experience. This leisure area is suitable for walking and picnicking and also serves as a starting point for hiking trails. It also has a fitness trail and equipment for stretching and bodyweight exercises. Walking, picnicking and exercise complement the hiking options here; the loop and the leisure area offer different ways to spend time outdoors.

Wine country and street arts

Winegrowing is another distinctive feature of Cabestany. Its terraces consist of rounded pebbles and alluvial deposits and are particularly well suited to producing AOC wines and Vins Doux Naturels. This geological context explains why the composition of the terraces matters for wine production. It adds an agricultural perspective on the town to its cultural and landscape offerings.

El Rapatell is a street arts festival. The 2026 municipal programme listed fifteen free performances. If you would like to include this event in your trip, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition: dates and individual performances can change from one edition to the next.
