Corneilhan brings together wine country and village history with two distinct circular routes: a hiking trail and a mountain biking route. The OENORANDO® “Les Hauts de Corneilhan” winds through vineyards and offers panoramic views of the village and its wine country. The mountain biking loop “Le Tour des Vignobles” offers a different experience. There are also wall frescoes, a chapel, and a wine experience that includes visits to vineyards and cellars.
Hiking through the vineyards
The OENORANDO® “Les Hauts de Corneilhan” is an easy 11 km circular hiking trail; the stated duration is 3 hours and 30 minutes. It winds through vineyards and offers panoramic views of Corneilhan and its wine country. Along the route, you may spot, among other things, bee-eater nests and elusive ocellated lizards. The trail therefore combines scenery, winegrowing and opportunities to observe nature, although sightings are not guaranteed. Before setting out, check the official information on route conditions and safety.
Comparing the mountain biking loop
“Le Tour des Vignobles” is a 10.5 km, very easy mountain biking loop in Corneilhan. It is suitable for families and invites visitors to discover the village’s heritage and the changing colours of the wine country throughout the year. At 10.5 km rather than 11 km, the two loops are similar in length. They differ mainly in how you travel; the hiking route also has a stated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes, while the mountain biking route is rated very easy.
The mountain biking loop starts about a nine-minute walk, or 829 m, from the CORNEILHAN – LA POMPE bus stop. Check bus routes and stop regulations before travelling.
Church, chapel and village history
Saint-Léonce Church contains wall frescoes painted in the 1960s by Nicolaï Greschny, an artist originally from Estonia. Its terrace offers panoramic views over the Orb plain. The church brings art and landscape together: the frescoes inside the building and the view across the plain from the terrace.
The Sainte-Marie funerary chapel, also known as the Chapel of the Free Schools, was built in 1892. Corneilhan was once fortified and preserves numerous remains from the distant past. A playful way to explore the village’s history is the historical treasure hunt “Sur les traces des Anciens” in the village. Check its current availability with the municipality in advance if you would like to plan your stay around it.
Wine and local produce
At Domaine Emile et Rose, the visit includes the vineyards and cellars, followed by a tasting of wines and local produce. Visits are subject to reservation and availability. If you would like to make this visit a firm part of your plans, confirm your reservation and availability in advance.
