Brissac combines water-based and cultural experiences with several clearly distinct activities. In the park, the Sentier de l’Eau follows numbered stones; the Pont de Saint-Etienne-d’Issensac represents the history of the pilgrimage route. There is also a go-kart track, a cycling loop and a swimming spot set up for the summer season.

The Avèze, Sentier de l’Eau and summer swimming

The Avèze runs through Brissac Park, a river fed by “a hundred springs.” The Sentier de l’Eau leads from the springs in the park to the lagoon, passing 33 numbered stones. The swimming spot at Saint-Etienne-d’Issensac, by contrast, is set up for the summer season; check access details before your visit. This means a route with named endpoints and a seasonal swimming option are available as distinct ways to enjoy the water.

Pilgrim history and Romanesque architecture

The medieval Pont de Saint-Etienne-d’Issensac enabled pilgrims to travel towards Saint Guilhem along the Way of St James. Three of its original five arches remain; since 1948, the bridge has been classified as a Monument historique.

The Chapelle Saint-Étienne d’Issensac is a 12th-century Romanesque building in the hamlet of Issensac, within the municipality of Brissac in the Hérault department of Occitania. It was first mentioned in 1080 under the name Exalchiato. The Château de Brissac dates from the early 11th century, but is not open to visitors. Check this access status again before your trip.

Outside pilgrimage days, the Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Suc is open on Sunday afternoons. During the day, visitors can freely access the terrace, the Lourdes grotto and the statue of the Virgin of the Mountain. Check access information before your visit.

Go-karting, cycling route and forest

Fun Kart Brissac has a 1,185-metre go-kart track homologated by the FFSA. Karts are available for hire for children and adults; the offering is suitable for different experience levels. Check current rental availability before travelling, as operating details may change.

The Boucle Cyclo N°10 between the Buèges and Hérault valleys leads to Brissac. The go-kart track has a set length; the Boucle Cyclo N°10, by contrast, is a cycling loop between the valleys that leads to Brissac. The activities are therefore clearly distinct. Check current route availability and conditions before setting off.

The Bois de Long lies on the first slopes of the Séranne, in a forest with traces of prehistoric settlement. These early traces broaden the perspective beyond the medieval bridge and the Romanesque chapel to a much older history of settlement.
