Château and Church Architecture
The Château de Jonquières was rebuilt in its present form between 1656 and 1666 and is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. On a self-guided visit, you can explore the château, its park, and its history and architecture. Check the visiting arrangements before you arrive.
The parish church of Saint Jean l’Évangéliste stands directly beside the château and was also rebuilt in the 17th century. Its bell tower is designed in the Gothic style. The neighbouring buildings thus reflect two distinct historical features: the more precisely dated rebuilding of the château and the church’s architecture, with its Gothic tower.
The château’s sculpture park features a permanent installation of works by Californian sculptor Charlie Simonds. Artistic displays may change, so check what is currently on view before your visit.
Wine Country and Events
Jonquières is known as a small wine-growing village, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. This landscape provides the setting for the Jonquières edition of La Circulade: the 7 km route passes through vineyards around the village and beneath olive groves. The precise route may vary from one edition to the next.
At this edition, visitors can taste more than 50 AOP wines from Terrasses du Larzac; the number may change from one edition to the next. La Circulade vigneronne en Terrasses du Larzac takes place each year in a different village in the appellation area. Jonquières is therefore the venue for a particular edition, not a permanent annual location.
Domaine Nova Solis invites visitors to discover the estate and its wines. Its range includes red, rosé and white AOP wines from Terrasses du Larzac; the selection may change. Arrange visits directly with the domaine.
Wine Route, Getting There and Finding Accommodation
The Route des vins du Causse du Larzac aux Piémonts includes a section from Jonquières to Montpeyroux. Check current route conditions before setting off.
The château is less than a ten-minute walk from the JONQUIERES – RTE DE MONTPEYROUX stop on the Montpellier–Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert line. Before travelling, check the current route and stop, as transport information may change.
For 2026, the château’s offering includes guided tours and wine tastings led by winemakers, both by reservation. Confirm the visiting arrangements in advance.
When looking for a holiday rental in Jonquières, use your planned visits as a starting point: the château and church offer a focus on architectural history, while the surrounding wine country offers a different experience. For La Circulade, check the details of the specific edition; guided tours and wine tastings at the château require a reservation. If you would like to include these activities, check their dates and arrangements before finalising your stay.
