The Chemin Jean Racine, the commune’s heritage and the Champfailly meadow appeal to different interests. In Milon-La-Chapelle, these include a hiking trail with literary verse inscriptions, historic sites and a distinctive natural environment. The former use of a mill and the history of a foundation also give the village further cultural connections.

Hiking the Chemin Jean Racine

The Chemin Jean Racine is just over five kilometres long. Seven trail markers, donated by the Touring Club de France, line the route. Their verse inscriptions are inspired by the places that influenced the young Jean Racine. Along the way, you will encounter not only markers but also a literary dimension connected to his inspiration.

Another route option is the “Jean Racine côté Château de la Madeleine” walk. It follows the first section of the Chemin Jean Racine from Chevreuse to Saint-Lambert/Milon-La-Chapelle. On the return, it follows the Circuit de Beauregard and makes a detour into the village. This named route therefore combines a section of the Chemin with a return via Beauregard and a detour into the village.

Heritage: Church, Chapel and Mill

Notre-Dame Church houses the 1921 high-relief memorial “La Résurrection du Poilu” by Georges Saupique. The chapel bells are another historical reference: they date from before the French Revolution, have been restored and are listed as historic monuments. Together, a dated work of art and older, protected bells represent different aspects of the local heritage.

The Moulin de Fauveau tells the story of the area’s former industrial use. It was converted to generate electricity and remained in operation until the Second World War. The Château de Vert-Cœur is associated with an institutional history: it houses the Fondation Anne de Gaulle. Charles and Yvonne de Gaulle founded the organisation in 1945 on their own initiative. The mill and château thus represent further historical themes beyond the church and chapel.

Landscape and Champfailly

Milon-La-Chapelle is considered the least populated village in the Parc naturel régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse. Fields and meadows are also part of the local landscape; over time, they have become a favoured area for horses. Local trails lead visitors to discover the commune’s heritage and natural treasures. The landscape can therefore be experienced not merely as a backdrop, but also through trails and specific natural sites.

The Forêt départementale de Champfailly includes a habitat of dry, sandy-calcareous grassland that is locally rare and increasingly threatened across the region. The Champfailly meadow is crossed by a walking trail and is used by the public for picnics. Two factors are important when considering the meadow: its local rarity and the growing regional threat to this habitat. The trail through the area and its use for picnics describe two different ways of engaging with this natural environment.

French cuisine in the village

L’Auberge de la Chapelle in Milon-La-Chapelle serves traditional French cuisine in a convivial setting. The dishes are prepared with fresh produce bought at the market that same morning. As restaurant details can change, check the latest information before visiting.
