Louveciennes offers several specific ways to explore the area: a themed trail featuring reproductions of Impressionist paintings, historic buildings, and numerous parks and forests. Local highlights range from early water engineering to a pavilion built for receptions. You can therefore plan your stay around culture, scenery, or a combination of both.

Impressionist Motifs and the Seine Valley

The Louveciennes Impressionist Trail is 4 km long and features around ten reproductions of paintings by major Impressionists such as Renoir, Sisley, and Pissarro. They are displayed at the places where the artists set up their easels. So when exploring Impressionism, the locations where the paintings were made are part of the experience, too.

The trail includes the Chemin de Mi-CĂ´te, which runs above the Seine Valley. It can be reached at the end of the promenade and offers a view across the valley. This vantage point complements the reproductions with a connection to the landscape. At 4 km, the themed trail has a definite length that you can take into account when planning your day; you can decide how much time to set aside based on your other plans.

Buildings: Water Engineering and Local History

The Aqueduct of Louveciennes has 36 arches and is 643 metres long. It collected water from the Seine and carried it to the Deux Portes reservoir in Versailles. Its dimensions can be understood in relation to its specific purpose: the structure formed part of a water supply system between the river and the reservoir.

The Music Pavilion represents another part of the town’s history. It was designed by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux and built for Madame du Barry’s receptions. The pavilion was inaugurated in September 1771. Its function, architect, and inauguration offer different points of reference for understanding its history.

The Château du Pont is the oldest civilian building in Louveciennes. This distinguishes three different aspects of the town’s buildings: water engineering at the aqueduct, a culture of receptions at the pavilion, and the Château du Pont’s status as the oldest building.

The Church and Its Different Historical Periods

The Church of Saint Martin in Louveciennes reflects different historical periods. Only part of the choir remains from the original building, which is thought to date from the 13th century. Inside is a rare double piscina; all the stained-glass windows date from the late 19th century. The original building’s probable date therefore contrasts with the specifically identified later period of the windows. The church is open to visitors every day throughout the year. Check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Parks and Forests

Louveciennes also has numerous parks and forests. They complement the buildings described above and the trail with a different perspective on the landscape. If you would like to combine culture and green spaces in your travel plans, you can make parks and forests a focus in their own right alongside the town’s art and architectural history.
