In Le Perreux-Sur-Marne, riverside walks can be combined with architecture, culture and green spaces. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding first what you would like to focus on: the riverside promenades and their villas, a park or a cultural programme. You can also plan your journey in detail: from Paris, the RER E takes you to Nogent–Le Perreux station on the edge of the town.
The Marne Riverbanks and Architectural History
Along the Bords de Marne, natural landscapes meet remarkable architecture. Numerous villas dating from the late 19th century have been preserved along the landscaped riverside promenades, opposite the Marne islands. If you want to explore on foot, the long-distance hiking trail GR14A runs along the banks of the Marne, from the south of the town to the Passerelle de Bry; it is a variant of the GR1A. Check route conditions locally.
The Passerelle de Bry spans the Marne and connects Le Perreux-Sur-Marne with neighbouring Bry-sur-Marne. The bridge was built by Gustave Eiffel and opened to traffic in 1894. Here, a practical crossing over the river is also a piece of architectural history. The Romanesque Church of Saint Jean-Baptiste is another historic landmark: built in 1890, it was the first place of worship in Le Perreux-Sur-Marne.
A Changing Cultural Programme
The Centre des bords de Marne offers an arts programme featuring dance, theatre and music. Each year, the venue hosts artists in residence; the programme changes with the seasons. If you want to include cultural events in your trip, check the specific events taking place during your visit.
Another musical and literary event is the Festival Notes d’Automne, held every year since 2009. The Médiathèque also offers free public events, including storytelling sessions, performances, conferences, computer courses, digital activities, games and workshops. Dates and content may change. The Jardin-Terrasse de la Médiathèque is open during the Médiathèque’s opening hours and is used, among other things, for reading and playing outdoors.
Parks and Riverside Nature
The parks each have their own character. At Parc du Saut du Loup, 7,000 square metres of lawn are set within a total area of 13,000 square metres. The park also has a Ludoparc, a multisport court, a boules court and a bandstand. Parc des Cités Unies has 47 trees, 26 benches and Ludoparc play areas. If you plan to visit a particular park, bear in mind that its facilities may change due to maintenance or renovation, and check its current condition.
Jardin du quai de l'Artois has lawns and picnic tables, as well as a solarium, children’s play equipment and exercise equipment for adults. A different riverside landscape can be found near the Passerelle de Bry and the Pont de Bry: two ecological beaches and a wetland area have been created there. The wetland supports the natural revegetation of the riverbanks. Mail des Droits de l’Homme adds a sensory garden and the municipality’s first inclusive play area to the range of options.
Seasonal Activities and Getting There
On Sundays from mid-May to mid-September, some streets are closed to traffic. Visitors can walk and cycle freely there; the dates may vary from year to year. Check the dates for your stay. The Société Nautique du Perreux offers rowing year-round, and welcomes participants aged ten and over. Rowing outings take place on weekends or during school holidays. It is best to check current arrangements and dates in advance.
For travel from Paris, one option is to take the RER E to Nogent–Le Perreux station, located directly on the edge of Le Perreux-Sur-Marne. Check the timetable for your travel date.
