Sucy-En-Brie offers a wide range of discoveries, from historic buildings and nature trails to a changing cultural programme. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these themes you would like to shape your stay. The château, fort and Église Saint-Martin each tell a different chapter of the town’s history; Parc départemental du Morbras focuses on trails and outdoor activities.
Château, Church and Fort
Château de Sucy was built in the 17th century by François Le Vau at the request of its owner, Nicolas Lambert. The ceiling paintings, among other features, are by Charles Le Brun. The château’s orangery has been converted into a venue for exhibitions and concerts. Visits to the château are scheduled once a month on a Sunday at 11 am and during the European Heritage Days.
Église Saint-Martin has been known since the time of Charlemagne and was rebuilt in the 12th and 13th centuries. Its distinctive features include a 28-metre-high bell tower with two sloping roof sections and a flat-ended choir, characteristic of the Brie style. A view of the church and château thus offers a glimpse into different periods of architectural history.
Fort de Sucy covers 3.5 hectares. This 19th-century military structure forms part of Paris’s second fortified ring. Guided tours show the remarkably well-preserved entrance building with its drawbridge, the moat, casemates, gun platforms, an old bread oven and the stables. While the château and church convey the history of architecture and its features, the fort’s structures illustrate the building’s military character.
Planning Visits
Free guided tours of the fort take place on the first Sunday of each month at 3 pm; additional tours are available on request. Visits to the château are scheduled once a month on Sundays at 11 am and during the European Heritage Days. Check the dates before you travel. Guided tours of Parc départemental du Morbras are also available on request; check availability in advance.
Another special place to visit is La Cabosse Gourmande. The town’s artisan chocolate shop offers a gourmet visit in the former Métairie of Château de Sucy. If you would like to plan a visit, check the arrangements before you travel.
Nature, Leisure and Cultural Programme
Parc départemental du Morbras features a biodiversity trail, a water trail and a bridle path. There are also play facilities and an orienteering course. The park offers a different kind of discovery from the historic visits, with a focus on trails and outdoor activities.
Poney Club de Sucy offers riding lessons and holiday courses for aspiring and experienced riders aged three and a half through adulthood. For activities specifically for children, Centre culturel de Sucy also offers a variety of options, including pottery, drawing and painting workshops, copper enamelling, an adventure club, mime theatre and cinema. The centre’s wider programme includes conferences, concerts, theatre, exhibitions and cinema; the programme may change, so check the latest dates.
Espace Jean-Marie Poirier is an event and cinema venue. As its programme also changes, it is worth checking current events before your visit. This lets you choose from specific cultural events between visits, rather than assuming that a fixed programme will be available during your stay.
