The Prés d'Héry show how much the landscape of Pont-D'héry changes with the seasons: depending on the time of year, the area is either a lake of about four hectares or a meadow. This difference makes the time of year you travel relevant to the scenery. Alongside this seasonal change, you can explore karst formations, take walks in the forest, visit a church with distinctive architectural details and enjoy culinary discoveries.

Landscape and Nature

In the area of the Forêt des Moidons in Pont-D'héry, karst erosion has created sinkholes and caves. Lesser and greater horseshoe bats are found in the caves. This brings geological formations and two bat species together under one nature theme. The distinction between karst formations and wildlife offers two ways of looking at the same landscape: at the hollow forms created by erosion and at the species found there.

The Forêt des Moidons, with its tumuli, is a destination for walks. This gives the forest theme a specific activity, while the sinkholes and caves offer other points of interest. The Cascade de Fauperrier and the gorges of the Furieuse are further sights in Pont-D'héry. The waterfall and gorges add landscape features that differ from caves and sinkholes.

Church and Industrial History

The church of Pont-D'héry has a bell tower with a dome dating from the 17th century. Its connection to Moutaine is particularly clear at the altar: it is made from an authentic millstone from that village. The bell tower and altar offer different perspectives on the church—a historic architectural form and a distinctive detail in its materials.

In Moutaine, the raised base of the former blast furnace and the charging openings of two lime kilns have been preserved. The remains differ: the base survives at the blast furnace, while the openings used to load the lime kilns are what remain. Moutaine thus features both among the industrial remains and as the source of the millstone at the church altar; the functions of these respective relics are different.

Carriage Rides and Culinary Discoveries

Écuries de la Chaux Denis offers carriage rides through the Forêt des Moidons. Rides are available by reservation only and for a minimum of two people. Check the booking conditions before your trip if you plan to take this excursion. The carriage ride also includes a tasting of meal platters prepared by Les Fumés du Jura in Pont-D'héry. The offer therefore includes both a ride through the forest and a culinary component.

At the shop in Moutaine in Pont-D'héry, you can discover a sausage with Comté cheese made by Salaisons Thaurin. Product availability may change, so if you are looking for it in particular, it is best to check the current selection in advance.
