The Fium'Orbo rises on the marshy plateau of I Pozzi, where very green meadows dotted with pools are among Corsica’s natural features. Ghisoni combines this landscape with high mountains, hiking trails, and architectural and artistic history. When looking for a hotel in Ghisoni, it helps to first decide whether nature and trails, the ski area, or historic sites should be the main focus of your stay.

High Mountains, Forest and Trails

The Capanelle ski area extends from 1,580 to 1,870 m in altitude and has three ski lifts, including one for beginners. At 2,357 m, Monte Renoso is one of Corsica’s five highest peaks. The Forêt de Marmano is representative of Corsica’s high-altitude forest; its preserved tree species include Laricio pines, maritime pines, beeches, silver firs and birches.

Comparing I Pozzi with the Forêt de Marmano reveals two distinct types of landscape: open meadows dotted with pools on a marshy plateau, and a high-altitude forest with a variety of tree species. Ghisoni is part of the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse, Corsica’s Regional Natural Park.

The Croce à a Sarra loop is an introduction to botany. To reach the start of the hike to Lac de Bastani from Ghisoni, take the D69 and then the D169 towards the Ghisoni Capanelle ski area; the trailhead is at the upper end of the resort. Another type of route is stage ten of the GT20, which runs from Ghisoni to Zicavu for about 45 km.

These routes offer different options for planning: Croce à a Sarra focuses on botany, Lac de Bastani is a hiking destination with a clearly specified access route, and the GT20 section is a stage with two endpoints and an approximate length. This lets you choose between a botanical loop, a hike to the lake, and planning a stage.

Churches, Art and Mining History

The Church of the Sainte Croix Brotherhood dates from the 15th century; its restored fresco is classified as a historic monument. The Church of San Francheschinu dates from the 17th century and belongs to the former Recollects monastery. The Chapel of Santa Croce houses a fresco by Ignazio Saveriu Raffali from 1752, depicting the “Lamentation of Christ.” These dates span from the 15th century to 1752, bringing together the history of churches and monasteries with a specific work of art.

The cast-iron statue at the Fontaine de Neptune is signed by Gabriel-Vital Dubray and dates from 1856. Along with the frescoes, the statue adds individual works of art to the history of the religious buildings.

The former Mine de la Finosa is a lead-silver, zinc and copper mine. After a short walk, some traces of the open-pit workings are visible on site; the tunnels are closed for safety reasons. This distinction determines what you can see at the mine: visible traces of open-pit mining, but not the underground tunnels.
