Pine forest, lagoon and beach give Ghisonaccia its distinctive character: Pinia is a large protected natural area, Urbinu is known for its lagoon and wetlands, and seasonal lifeguard supervision and accessible facilities at Vignale Beach are practical points to consider when planning. There are also water sports, a seasonal farmers’ market, and religious and cultural activities. When looking for accommodation, you can start by considering whether nature, outdoor activities, water sports or local culture will shape your trip.

The Lagoon and Wetlands at Urbinu

The Urbinu Lagoon covers approximately 790 hectares and is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Together with connected wetlands, including the Marais de Piobi, it provides birds with a place to rest and feed. There is a car park at the Étang d’Urbinu, near the coastal wardens’ house. An outdoor information facility explores the history and heritage of the lagoon. This visit lets you discover both the natural environment and its historical and cultural significance.

Pinia: Forest, Beach and Outdoor Activities

The Pinia Forest is one of Corsica’s last maritime pine forests and borders Ghisonaccia Beach. Pinia is a protected area covering 362.78 hectares in Ghisonaccia and is open to the public; check access status before your visit. The forest has a fully signposted fitness trail as well as sports facilities for cyclists, runners and families. This gives Pinia a different focus from the Urbinu wetlands: here, the forest landscape and outdoor activities take centre stage.

The D244, also known as the “route de la mer,” connects the centre of Ghisonaccia with Vignale Beach. The four-kilometre road is bordered by a cycle path. At the beach, a lifeguard station supervises the swimming area in July and August; check locally whether seasonal supervision is in place. Accessible facilities at the beach include an access mat, a Titalo beach wheelchair and toilets for people with reduced mobility. If you rely on these facilities, confirm their availability locally before travelling.

Water Sports and Seasonal Activities

At Ghisonaccia Beach, the Fun Orizonte centre offers towed water sports, pedal boats and stand-up paddleboarding. Quad tours are also available, accompanied by a BPJEPS-certified instructor. Check locally which activities are running during your travel dates. This lets you plan around the activities actually available without assuming that water sports and a beach visit are part of the same offer.

The Marché des Producteurs de Pays in Ghisonaccia brings together local producers and products from organic farming. It offers seasonal produce from the surrounding area and regional specialities, as well as the chance to meet producers directly. As the market is seasonal, check the dates before your visit. It adds a glimpse of local products and the people who produce them to the area’s nature and sports attractions.

Chapel, Festivals and Trip Planning

The Saint Philippe Chapel, also known as the Ghisonaccia-Gare Chapel, was built in 1902 by residents of Ghisonaccia-Gare and Saint Antoine. A parish Mass is held there on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m.; check the exact time before your visit. Religious festivals are also held each year, including Saint Philippe, the Saint Antoine procession and Saint Jean. It is worth checking the dates if you would like to plan your visit around one of them.

“Urbinu in Festa” was launched in 2016. The event includes educational and fun workshops on the lagoon’s biodiversity, the role of lagoons and the vulnerability of wetlands; an eighth edition was held in 2024. Check the event dates locally. For information about stays in the area, the Corse Orientale Tourist Office is located in the centre of Ghisonaccia; check opening hours in advance.

First decide which aspects of Ghisonaccia matter most for your trip, then compare suitable hotels for your stay.
