Seven stained-glass windows, a protected fen and an indoor amusement park for children give Créney-Près-Troyes a variety of attractions. When choosing, you can weigh up which focus matters most for your stay.
Saint-Aventin: architectural history and stained glass
The Church of Saint-Aventin in Creney-près-Troyes has existed since at least the 12th century. The present building was constructed from east to west in the 16th century. The southern Renaissance portal can also be dated as part of the building’s history: it dates from 1557. Three of the windows in the choir can be distinguished by date. The southern one dates from 1510, and the central and northern ones from 1520.
The stained-glass ensemble comprises seven windows with different depictions. These include the life and death of the Virgin Mary, the Tree of Jesse and the Pietà, as well as scenes from the Passion and the childhood of Christ. Saints and donors also appear, as does God the Father as pope. The subjects offer several ways to engage with the ensemble, rather than limiting it to a single theme.
Saint-Aventin is part of the Route du Vitrail. Inside the church, 16th-century stained glass sits alongside postwar works by Max Ingrand. The stained-glass windows are protected immovable features of the church; later, the entire building was also designated a Monument historique. Opening status may change, so check the current visiting conditions before planning a visit.
Marais de Villechétif: a protected fen
The Marais de Villechétif is a notable alkaline fen. It includes six habitat types of Community interest. The marsh, associated with Creney-près-Troyes, is protected as part of the Natura 2000 network and is considered rich in fauna and flora. The Natura 2000 site lies mainly within the municipal areas of Villechétif and Creney-près-Troyes. This means the protected area covers a wider area than a single locality.
Access to the marsh may be restricted; check the current visiting conditions before a visit. For road directions, the RD 172 links Creney-près-Troyes via Villechétif with Saint-Parres-aux-Tertres. This describes the road connection, not a specific walking or driving time.
More cultural and leisure attractions
In the hamlet of Argentolle stands a pavilion in the style of Louis XIII, which belongs to the former seigneurie. The Château d’Argentolle is another designated point of interest. Together, these sites add different aspects of local heritage to the church art, without implying that they form a combined visitor route.
Keep’s parc is an indoor amusement park in Creney-près-Troyes for children aged 1 to 14. In the 2026 service year, the Médiathèque de Creney offers free access for cultural leisure activities. It is located at 3 bis rue de l’École, 10150 Creney-près-Troyes. Alongside the historical and natural attractions, visitors can therefore plan around a children’s activity and a cultural facility with a precise address.
