When planning a stay in Rosnay, you can focus on nature and culture as distinct themes: circular trails pass through a variety of landscapes, while Château du Bouchet and Église Saint-André offer specific architectural and artistic points of interest. The routes described differ in their landscapes and views—useful landmarks to help you choose.
Ponds, Reeds and the Landscapes of Brenne
The Terres et Étangs de Brenne, Massé-Foucault Regional Nature Reserve covers 320 hectares. One of the reserve’s last reed beds is located at Étang Massé. Rosnay’s landscape also includes sandstone hills known as “buttons.” Alongside the ponds, the area’s natural features therefore include reeds, wetland areas and these named hills.
The “Rencontre avec les paysages de Brenne” circular trail passes through ponds, natural meadows, heathland and wet woodland. At Étang du Blizon and the ponds in the Foucault-Massé area, it offers opportunities to observe numerous waterbirds. If you choose your outing by landscape type, this trail offers a clear combination: different habitats along the route and designated birdwatching opportunities at the ponds mentioned.
Trails with Different Views
The “Les étangs au fil des bouchures” circular trail starts at Place de Verdun in Rosnay, opposite the Le Cendrille restaurant. Views of ponds open up along the tall and low hedgerows. This gives the trail a different focus from “Rencontre avec les paysages de Brenne”: the latter highlights the variety of landscapes and opportunities for birdwatching, while hedgerows and views of ponds define the character of this route. The starting point at Place de Verdun is also a useful landmark for planning your trip.
The Maison du Parc is also a starting point for a hiking trail.
Fortress, Church and Wall Paintings
Château du Bouchet is a fortress dating from the 13th, 15th and 17th centuries. Tours of its many furnished rooms are available for independent visits or with a guide. From the terrace, visitors can enjoy views of Étang de la Mer Rouge and the surrounding area within a 60 km radius. If you plan to visit, check the tour options and opening days before you travel.
Église Saint-André offers a different historical perspective: it was completely rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century. Its wall paintings cover the walls of the nave and choir. The two buildings therefore offer contrasting highlights—the fortress and furnished rooms at the château, and the painted nave and choir at the church.
Information and Regional Products
The Maison du Parc is a place to find tourist information. It also has a video projection room and a tasting area for regional products. When planning your visit, note that the tasting area’s opening hours differ from those of the shop. This lets you treat enquiries about Rosnay, a screening and a tasting as separate offerings, without assuming they have the same opening times.
