In Concremiers, late medieval architectural history, memories of former river crossings and named routes come together. The Church of Saint-Martin, the Château de Forges and the Moulin banal de Courtioux offer different insights into the history of the town. Routes from here also lead to Ingrandes, Le Blanc and Mérigny. For planning purposes, you can distinguish between historic buildings, connections to the river and exploring on foot.

Church and fortified manor house

The parish church of Saint-Martin was built in the second half of the 15th century. It includes five private chapels commissioned for the parish by the noble families of Poix and Naillac in the 15th and 16th centuries. The building thus brings together a church from the late 15th century and chapels from two centuries.

The Château de Forges makes its own mark: it is a fortified manor house from the 15th century, built by Jean de Poix, cupbearer to Charles VII. The château has been classified as a historic monument since 26 October 1964. It can be viewed from the outside. As exterior access may change, check before your visit.

Mill technology and former river crossings

The Moulin banal de Courtioux was rebuilt on the banks of the Anglin in 1868. It retains its 19th-century mechanism and a Poncelet wheel with curved blades.

At the former Maison forte de Courtioux, the emphasis is on its former role in monitoring: it once served to watch over the ford and collect tolls. The surviving defensive features date from the late 16th century. These include corbels for projecting watchtowers and a loophole for muskets. The corbels supported the watchtowers so that they projected beyond the wall; the loophole points to the weapons intended for use there.

The Chemin du gué also recalls a former crossing: it was used until 1846, when the bridge over the Anglin was built. A lane in the town centre leads to the river and a riverside picnic area. This makes it possible to connect the Anglin’s historical importance with practical directions in the town.

Routes between Ingrandes, Le Blanc and Mérigny

The Voie verte runs from Concremiers to Ingrandes and on to Le Blanc. Along its route, the viaduct offers panoramic views of the town. The GR de Pays runs from Concremiers via Ingrandes to Mérigny. The destinations distinguish the two routes: Le Blanc can be reached via the Voie verte, while Mérigny lies along the described GR de Pays route.

The routes offer different ways to explore the surrounding area on foot. Plan your route before setting off: trail conditions may change, and the GR de Pays markings may change. Concremiers is also one of 17 municipalities that are partly covered by the special protection area “Vallée de l’Anglin et affluents”. This partial designation forms part of the local landscape context.
