Vosne-Romanée brings together a strong connection to Burgundy’s wine-growing landscape, architectural history and specific tasting experiences. The commune is one of the 40 communes in the central zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne. You can choose different focuses for your stay: the landscape and routes, the Église Saint-Martin and historic buildings, or wine and culinary experiences.

Climats, Routes and Romanée-Conti

Vosne-Romanée is a stop on the Route des Grands Crus. A cycling and wine circuit passes through the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and follows the Route des Grands Crus through the Côte de Nuits. This means that the town’s place on the route and the description of a cycling and wine circuit in the region sit side by side. In Vosne-Romanée, visitors can also stop at the Romanée-Conti Grand Cru vineyard plot. A plaque and a cross mark the plot.

These experiences offer different ways to find your bearings: the routes relate to the Climats and the Côte de Nuits; the stop at Romanée-Conti focuses on a single, named plot. This lets you explore the connection with wine both as part of a cultural landscape and at a specific location.

Architecture and Building History

The Église Saint-Martin has a Latin-cross floor plan. A square bell tower topped with a polygonal slate spire stands on the east façade. At the same time, for practical reasons and due to the configuration of the terrain, the church faces west rather than east. Its building history includes two distinct dates: the church is said to have been built in the 13th century; it was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century.

Other historic sites add to this picture of Vosne-Romanée. La Goillotte is a former wine cellar belonging to the Princes of Conti. The Château de Vosne-Romanée was restored in the 19th century and is now owned by the Comte Liger-Belair estate. The Maison Romane, meanwhile, dates from the 16th century and combines a historic building with its current use as a tasting venue.

Tastings and Culinary Experiences

The Maison Romane now houses a high-quality tasting room. The Vosne Tasting Club is located there, with two vaulted cellars, a dining room and a lounge for wine tastings and brunches. If you are interested in this experience, check the booking details before your trip.

Domaine Armelle et Bernard Rion offers a guided cellar tour where visitors can discover the estate’s wines. It also offers an introduction to cooking with truffles. The experiences differ in their focus: at the Vosne Tasting Club, wine tastings and brunch are linked to the rooms of the Maison Romane; the cellar tour presents the estate’s wines, while the introduction is devoted to truffle cuisine. You can then choose whether to focus on a tasting, the wines of an estate or a culinary activity. As experiences may change, check in advance whether the cellar tour and truffle-cooking introduction are available on your chosen date.

This gives you a clear choice between architectural history, the landscape and routes, and different wine and culinary experiences. The church and historic buildings provide a cultural focus; the route and the marked Romanée-Conti plot each offer a different perspective on the connection with wine. If you want to combine several interests, these differences can help you decide which part of your stay to plan first.
