At the Étang de Trunvel in Treogat, sea, marshland and reed beds meet. The pond is a biological reserve protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral. More than 100,000 migratory birds and 10,000 breeding pairs visit the area each year; these figures may vary from year to year. The site brings together a diverse wetland landscape and a distinctive natural feature.
Trails and Birdwatching Spots
The Circuit de la vallée de Languidou starts in the centre of Treogat and follows country lanes to the Étang de Kergalan. Numerous bird species breed there, including some very rare species. Their presence varies seasonally. If you plan to take the route, check the route details before setting out; birdwatching is not an experience that remains the same throughout the year.
The GR34 and other trails are also available for hiking. A cycling route, a mountain bike trail and horse rides add other activities to the choice. This offers several ways to get around, while the Circuit de la vallée de Languidou is a specifically described route, with its starting point, country lanes and destination at the Étang de Kergalan.
A Beach Shaped by the Tides
At Plage de Kerbinigou, the beach changes with the tide: at high tide it is a pebble beach, while at low tide it becomes a wide beach of fine sand. The change affects not only the waterline, but also the nature of the beach itself. If you are planning a visit, take the tide times into account. This will help you understand the kind of beach you will find there.
Seigneurial History and Wartime Relics
On Treogat’s eastern border with Peumerit, Manoir du Minven stands beside a former manor farm. The de Boisguehenneuc family ruled there for two centuries, until the French Revolution. The site links a named building and its immediate surroundings with a long family history.
A different historical focus is provided by the four large bunkers in the hamlet of Keryéré. They date from the occupation during the last war, are clearly visible from the road and were built to protect large-calibre guns. In contrast to the manor, this site takes you into a very different era: here, the military purpose of the structures is the focus.
Église Saint-Boscat and Its Parish Enclosure
Église Saint-Boscat dates from the 14th to 15th centuries and was built in the style of the Pont-Croix school. In addition to the church, the parish enclosure includes the surrounding wall, cemetery, calvary and fountain. The site therefore extends beyond the church building itself and encompasses several distinct features of the parish centre.
Since 2008, Église Saint-Boscat has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. Its date of construction, architectural style and parish enclosure offer different ways to understand the church. Together with Manoir du Minven and the bunkers at Keryéré, these sites present different historical themes: religious architecture, family rule and military use. When choosing what to focus on in Treogat, you can therefore weigh these places according to your interest in nature, the coast or history.
