When planning a stay in Treflez, there are two distinct themes to consider: coastal paths through the dunes and historic religious buildings bearing traces of several centuries. The GR34 passes through the commune; at Plage de la Sablière, walks and an educational trail take centre stage, while the Chapelle Saint-Guévroc and the Église paroissiale Sainte Ediltrude offer points of connection to cultural history. These themes can help you choose a hotel and shape your trip around what you would like to explore locally.

Dunes, the GR34 and nature

The GR34 section along the Côte des Sables passes through the commune of Tréflez and by the Dunes de Keremma. The dunes are protected by the Conservatoire du littoral. Twenty-one orchid species have been recorded there—a specific botanical feature alongside the coastal path. If you are interested in the natural side of the area, this offers a distinct focus beyond the hiking route.

From the Maison des dunes to the dyke, four interpretation stations mark the GR34 through the Dunes de Keremma. They are freely accessible, including outside the Maison des dunes’ opening hours. If you want to visit a particular station, check the local visiting conditions.

Plage de la Sablière and route planning

Plage de la Sablière is unguarded and not suitable for swimming. Walkers can use an educational trail there with information panels about the fauna and flora. This makes the distinction clear for planning: the beach is suited to walks and nature information, not to a swimming holiday.

A hiking guide to the GR34 from Tréflez to Saint-Pol-de-Léon includes recommended routes, starting points near car parks and places of interest. Availability and content may change. Before planning, check whether the guide is available and whether the information suits your plans.

The Chapelle Saint-Guévroc and its traces of time

The present-day Chapelle Saint-Guévroc was built between 1895 and 1898 on the still-visible foundations of an earlier building. The chapel has an associated cemetery and devotional spring. Graves dating from the 12th to the 16th century lie one above another in the cemetery: the oldest are from the 12th and 13th centuries, and the most recent from the 16th century. This makes it possible to distinguish in time between the construction of the present chapel and the cemetery’s much earlier history.

The Église paroissiale Sainte Ediltrude

The Église paroissiale Sainte Ediltrude was rebuilt in 1725. Its bell tower houses a bell dated 1776. The church also contains two protected processional banners, acquired in 1761: the Sainte Etheldrède parish processional banner and the Don du Rosaire brotherhood processional banner. The dates refer to different events: 1725 to the church’s rebuilding, 1761 to the acquisition of the banners and 1776 to the dating of the bell.

This gives you two distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: paths and nature among the dunes and along the coast, and the architectural and religious history of the buildings mentioned above. Choose a hotel in Treflez based on which theme matters more to you during your stay.
