Pointe du Raz is located within the territory of Plogoff and is part of the Grand Site de France “Pointe du Raz en Cap Sizun.” The place is therefore associated with both a specific coastal point and a larger landscape area. Historical religious buildings add another dimension. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether your main interest is the landscape and trails, the coast’s connection to surfing, or church architecture.

Coastal Landscape, Trails, and Surfing

The Grand Site de France “Pointe du Raz en Cap Sizun” covers more than 2,000 hectares of remarkable landscapes and is divided into high-quality circular hiking routes. The area describes the wider landscape setting, while the routes define its layout as a hiking destination. This is a different scale from exploring Pointe du Raz itself on the GR®34, which you can do alone or with a guide. Topics include fauna, flora, and maritime heritage; individual program details may vary.

Plage de la Baie lies between Pointe du Raz and Pointe du Van and is considered a surfer’s paradise. Its position between the two points precisely identifies the beach; its connection with surfing offers a different focus from the fauna, flora, and maritime topics along the GR®34. This makes it possible to consider the coast and hiking trails as distinct areas of interest.

Church Architecture and Heritage

The oldest part of the parish church of Saint-Collodan dates from the 16th century. Its floor plan is cruciform: the nave forms the main longitudinal section, side aisles flank it, and two chapels form the transept. The term “transept” refers to the section that runs across the longitudinal axis; this explains how the arrangement of the spaces creates the cross shape. The date explicitly refers to the oldest part of the church.

Chapelle Saint Michel is located south of the village of Lescoff. It is said to date from the 16th century; old statues and the beauty of its setting make it noteworthy. The historical dating is phrased more cautiously than for Saint-Collodan: the chapel is said to date from that century. The points of interest also differ: Saint-Collodan is characterized by its floor plan, while Saint Michel stands out for its statues and setting.

Information and Orientation on Site

The Maison du site offers information about marked trails through the heathland, exhibitions, film screenings in the auditorium, and tourist information. These provide different ways to find your bearings: trail information helps you explore the landscape, while exhibitions and films offer cultural perspectives. Individual program details may vary.

During opening hours, the Maison du site provides an electric shuttle for people with disabilities or reduced mobility. As its availability is seasonal, check before setting out on your trip.
