Le Trévoux combines protected stone monuments and church art with a green natural area close to the town centre. You can tailor your stay to different interests: the monuments, the parish complex and the details of the church offer a focus on cultural history; the Étangs du Trévoux provide paths and opportunities for a picnic. You can also plan hiking as a focus in its own right.
Stone Monuments and Church Art
The Goalichot dolmen and the Laniscar menhir were designated as protected historic monuments by decree in 1974. The decree for Goalichot is dated 26 February, and the one for Laniscar 7 November. Both monuments were therefore protected in the same year, each as a different stone landmark.
In the town centre is a fully renovated architectural parish complex. The reredos and tabernacle in the Church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul have been listed as protected objects under the Monuments historiques since 1991. This protection classification differs from the 1974 monument protection decrees for Goalichot and Laniscar.
A distinctive feature of the church is its wooden door, dating from 1678. Its bas-reliefs depict Saint Peter and the Baptism of Christ. In a bas-relief, the image projects only slightly from the surface and remains closely connected to its background. This draws attention not only to the door’s age but also to the kind of decoration it bears.
The Notre-Dame chapel also has a clearly dated construction history: the rectangular building was built in 1921, extended in 1988–1989 and blessed on 15 September 1989. These dates mark different stages—the original construction, the later extension and the blessing.
Landscape and the Étangs du Trévoux
Le Trévoux lies at the foot of the Montagnes Noires and faces south; the terrain slopes gently overall. The Étangs du Trévoux form a distinct natural area close to the town centre: the grounds encompass an almost three-hectare green space crossed by laid-out paths.
The ponds are directly accessible via the D22 departmental road; the grounds have two designated car parks. Before setting out, it is worth checking the access route and parking situation. For picnics, there is a covered structure as well as tables and benches. This lets you plan walks around the ponds and a break at the picnic facilities as separate parts of your stay.
Hiking and Comparing Routes
A 2024 hiking guide gives the Promenade de Lanorgard’s length as around 11 kilometres and its approximate duration as three hours. The guide also lists a connection via bus line 3 to Le Trévoux Centre Poste. The approximate distance and time give you a general framework for planning the hike. As timetables can change, check the current schedule before travelling.
Another hiking option is the GR® de Pays des Portes de Cornouaille. It passes through Le Trévoux and continues via Bannalec to Rosporden. Unlike the Promenade, for which a length and approximate duration are given, this route can be understood by looking at the places named along it. This helps you decide whether your planning is better guided by a time estimate or by a route through several places.
