Guiclan brings together sacred art, historic buildings and outdoor activities. At the Église Saint-Pierre, two art-historical perspectives come together: the choir screen is considered characteristic of Léon’s religious architecture in the 17th century. The Rosary altar has 15 finely carved medallions depicting the 15 mysteries of the Rosary. The choir screen highlights the regional architectural style, while the altar depicts the Rosary; together, they give the church a distinct art-historical profile.
Church Art and Historic Sites
The visitor programme published in 2025 provided for guided tours of the parish church and its remarkable altarpieces from Monday to Saturday throughout the year. If you plan to take a tour, check the current dates before travelling. For those interested in sacred art, a guided tour can bring together both aspects—the church interior and the altarpieces—in a single visit.
The Moulin de Trévilis probably dates from the 15th century. The Château de Lézérazien, also known as Saint-Jacques, was built by Count Albert de Kerouartz. It has a private chapel, rebuilt in 1864 or 1869 and dedicated to Saint James. The castle’s name and the chapel’s dedication thus share a connection to Saint James.
Roc'h-Toul takes you even further back in time: the prehistoric cave served as a dwelling for Stone Age people several thousand years ago. The cave and the rock were classified by decree on 22 October 1913. The Chapelle Saint-Visias houses a statue of Saint Thivisiau, depicted as a bishop. One hypothesis holds that the pardon festival at the Chapelle Saint-Visias takes place on the same day as the pardon of Saint Thivisiau in Landivisiau.
The historical themes span from the prehistoric dwelling to the mill, which probably dates from the 15th century, and the architecture of the 17th century. This range of periods can help you choose a focus: early settlement history, historic buildings or religious art offer different perspectives on Guiclan.
Gardens, Walking Trails and Recreation
The garden of the Centre Missionnaire Saint-Jacques is known as Parc Saint-Jacques and is open to the public year-round. It is set on an 18-hectare site and is also a starting point for several walking trails. If you plan to visit the garden, check current access arrangements beforehand.
A municipal publication from January 2025 puts Guiclan’s network of circular trails and variants at more than 70 kilometres in total. Trail conditions and markings can change; check current information before setting out. The network includes both circular trails and variants—different types of routes to take into account when planning your walk.
The Plan d'eau de Kernabat is a place for recreation and relaxation for children and adults. These activities have clearly distinct focuses for planning your day: the trails are for walking, while the Plan d'eau is for recreation and relaxation.
