Brasparts brings together traces of Neolithic settlement and a rich religious heritage; at the same time, hiking options in and around the commune cater to different time budgets. When planning, you can choose between individual cultural sites, a shorter circular walk and a multi-day sequence of stages.

Heritage in Brasparts: Church, Chapels and Megaliths

At the Église Notre-Dame et Saint-Tugen, you can discover a variety of architectural details. The door that forms the base of the bell tower bears the date 1551 on the west façade. The south portal dates from 1587; statues of the apostles in niches and vault paintings depicting the attributes of the Evangelists add to the architectural details. The church, with its calvary and ossuary, was classified as a historic monument by decree of 21 December 1914.

The Chapelle Saint-Sébastien was built from granite in 1660, using stone quarried locally at Carrière du Goël. Inside are statues of Saint John the Baptist, Saint Roch and a bishop. Contemporary stained-glass windows by M-G Le Bars-Ateliers Loire are located on either side of the nave. The coats of arms on the cross are another detail: they may belong to the Huon family, which owned the nearby manor house of Squiriou.

The Office de tourisme de Brasparts’ seasonal cultural tour programme explains the parish enclosure, the town and the Galeries des Singuliers. The Chapelle Saint Michel, on the heights of the Terres du Milieu, is also part of the programme. It runs from 17 June to 17 September; check the dates for your travel period.

The megalithic stone row known as “an Eured Vein” in Brasparts bears witness to the area’s Neolithic settlement. The Alignements d’An Eured Veign comprise two sections subject to different protection orders: one section was classified as a historic monument by decree of 13 September 1968; another section was listed as a historic monument on 1 August 1980.

Hiking in Brasparts and the Monts d’Arrée

According to the 2026 route information, the first loop of the Kalon Menez Are is just under 40 km long and divided into three stages; it is intended to be completed over two or three days of hiking. The loop is signposted in both directions and can be accessed from Brasparts. Check the route status and signage before setting out.

The Kalon Menez Are is one of four loops on the GR® de Pays des Monts d’Arrée and includes, among other sections, part of the GR® 37 between Huelgoat and Mont Saint-Michel. In the wider area around Brasparts, the route crosses sensitive natural areas in the Monts d’Arrée with remarkable biodiversity. These include curlews, Quimper snails, European beavers and freshwater pearl mussels; conditions for these species change seasonally.

The guide accompanying the first loop supplements route maps and hiking sheets with points of interest, information on accommodation, food and drinking water, and advice on how to behave in natural areas. Information about individual services may change; check it before your hike.

A shorter option is the Au fil de l’eau circular trail: it is described as a moderately difficult 14 km hike taking around 3 hours and 15 minutes. The trail passes through the west and northeast of the commune of Brasparts and takes in Brasparts’ religious heritage along the way. The route page was updated on 23 December 2024; check access conditions before your hike. This makes it easy to choose based on your available time: a walk of around three hours and 15 minutes or a sequence of stages over two or three days of hiking.

Horse riding and accommodation

For horse-riding activities, the Centre équestre de l’Arrée in Brasparts offers horse-riding tours lasting one or more days, riding lessons and hacks. As operating arrangements may change, confirm the details in advance.
