A protected church complex, historic buildings from different centuries and two distinct golfing options give a stay in Clohars-Fouesnant a clear focus. You can plan your trip around culture or golf—or include both in your itinerary.

Churches, chapels and their history

Saint-Hilaire Church, the cemetery and the former calvary together form a complex protected as a historic monument. The church’s building history can also be traced through a specific part of the structure: the oldest eastern section was probably built at the beginning of the 15th century. This date refers to that part of the building; the complex also includes the cemetery and the former calvary.

Another stop for those interested in culture is the Notre-Dame du Drennec Chapel. It was built at the end of the 19th century and incorporates architectural elements from an older building dating to the 16th century. A remarkable spring adjoins the chapel, with a calvary and a PietĂ  in a niche. The grounds also have their own significance: they have been recognised as a bird sanctuary since 2018. Here, architectural history, religious art and a recognised refuge for birds sit side by side.

The Château de Cheffontaines

The main construction phase of the Château de Cheffontaines took place in the 18th century. Bodigneau was largely dismantled to obtain granite for the construction of today’s château. This history of the building materials adds the origins of an important material to the story of the building. The château is partly listed as a historic monument and partly classified as a historic monument. It is privately owned, so do not assume that it is open to the public. This differs from the protected complex at Saint-Hilaire, which includes the church, cemetery and former calvary.

Two golf options with different characters

Golf de l’Odet is located in the communes of Clohars-Fouesnant and Bénodet. The grounds cover 130 hectares and include an 18-hole course laid out in 1986. Traditional Breton hedgerows line the course, while oak and pine trees shape the wooded grounds.

City Golf de Bénodet in Clohars-Fouesnant is designed differently: the 18-hole city golf course is open to visitors aged four and over. Local and natural materials are used in its design. The terrain is modelled on real greens, while the obstacles are inspired by large golf courses. This creates the immersive city golf experience described. The options therefore have a concrete difference: at Golf de l’Odet, the terrain and trees define the character; at City Golf, it is the designed play elements and materials.

Concert dates and getting around

Every year, the Musik Europa Breizh association organises a concert series of Baroque music, historical instruments and singing at Saint-Hilaire Church. The programme also features forgotten or rediscovered repertoires. Check the event dates before your trip if you would like to attend a concert during your stay.

For another way to find your bearings locally, the route to Moulin du Pont is marked in violet. As markings can change, check the signs on site. When choosing a hotel in Clohars-Fouesnant, you can start by deciding whether you would like to focus your stay on the historic buildings and concert programme or on one of the two golfing options.
