The Chapelle de Loguillo, an octagonal earthwork and the Moulin Neuf offer three concrete ways to explore the history of the commune of Bohars. Other topics include events at Espace Roz Valan, cheese experiences at From Bohars and a hiking trail that crosses several communes. Different conditions apply when planning: advance booking is recommended for events at From Bohars; the information about La Boharsienne relates to the 2025 event format.
Chapel, earthwork and mill
The Chapelle de Loguillo is the oldest building in Bohars. It was founded by the lords of Kerguiziau; in the 16th century, the Du Chatel family rebuilt it. Its furnishings include a polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin and Child, known as Notre Dame de Loguillo, dating from the 16th century, as well as statues from the 17th and 18th centuries. The building’s history and its furnishings can be considered as two historical layers: the founding and rebuilding relate to the building, while the dated figures are part of its furnishings.
The Motte of Bohars ar c’hoat is an octagonal earthwork. It measures around 32 to 33 metres in diameter, and its ditches are about 3 metres deep. Unlike the chapel, with its history of construction and furnishings, the motte is characterised by its shape and approximate dimensions.
The Moulin Neuf was built on the Penfeld before the French Revolution; here, the river forms the boundary between Bohars and Brest. The Moulin Neuf is one of the last mills in the Finistère department still in operation. At the Penfeld, therefore, the historic construction period and an ongoing mill operation come together.
Cultural programme and cheese
The year-round programme at the multicultural Espace Roz Valan in Bohars includes performances, concerts and evening events.
From Bohars selects cheeses from local producers and experienced affineurs, and makes homemade cheese creations. These include flavoured fresh goat’s cheese and Brie with apricot and honey. From Bohars also offers tastings, evenings and workshops. Advance booking is recommended for these events.
La Boharsienne is another example with a clearly specified date: in 2025, the event format included a walk/cani-hike, children’s competitions, 5- and 10-kilometre runs, and a trail race. Dates and formats should be checked separately for future editions.
Hiking trail and connections
The “Au fil de la Penfeld” circular hiking trail is in the commune of Bohars and passes through several communes. Its cross-commune route distinguishes it from the individual buildings and provides another hiking option for visitors to consider.
Bibus provides more frequent service in the area around the hospital. Direct connections to the transfer points at Place de Strasbourg, Le Bergot and Place des FFI improve links to the rest of the network. If you plan to take the bus, check the current Bibus timetable before travelling; service details may change.
