From Pointe des Espagnols, you can see the Goulet de Brest, the Bay of Brest and the Port of Brest. The coastal fortifications and waterside activities give Roscanvel two distinct focal points for planning your trip: military history and maritime activities.

Pointe des Espagnols: Views and Coastal Fortifications

The fortifications at Pointe des Espagnols include a Napoleonic tower, a double caponier, hornworks and artillery batteries. Together, they represent coastal fortifications from the 17th to the 20th century. The views of the Goulet, the bay and the port add the coastal setting to this historical perspective.

If you are interested in the development of coastal defence, the variety of structures offers a different perspective from that of a single fortification. The features mentioned range from a tower and caponier to hornworks and batteries; the period covered spans several centuries.

The Circuit du Moulin du Seigneur

The Circuit du Moulin du Seigneur starts at Place de l'Église in Roscanvel and runs through the fortified camp on the Crozon Peninsula. Fortifications stand on successive headlands, some dating back to the Middle Ages. The route thus brings together another chapter in the region’s fortification history: the structures described are not limited to a single period. Use its location at Place de l'Église and the fortifications from different periods as points of reference when planning your visit.

Sailing Courses, Boat Rental and Kayak Excursions

The Centre Nautique de Roscanvel offers sailing courses during the spring, summer and autumn holidays for children aged 8 to 18 and for adults. It also rents out kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, dinghies and catamarans, each for two hours. Check the current course and rental dates before planning your visit, as schedules and seasonal availability may change.

The time periods distinguish the activities: the rental periods mentioned each last two hours, while the historical kayak excursions last half a day and occasionally a full day, including a picnic. Volunteers accompany and provide safety cover for these excursions; a local historian contributes to the historical programme. Individual dates and arrangements may change.

Kayaks in Roscanvel Bay make it possible to explore the bay from the sea and circle the islands. Whether it is possible to circle them depends on equipment and weather conditions. This distinguishes the rental option from the guided historical excursions: the focus here is on exploring the bay, while the latter offer a historical programme with volunteers and a local historian.

Market and Regatta

The Marché de Roscanvel takes place year-round on Friday mornings in the village square. If you would like to include a market visit in your travel plans, check the local schedule in advance.

The Régate du 15 août has been the traditional regatta of the Centre Nautique de Roscanvel for more than 60 years and is listed in the Groupement des Croiseurs d'Iroise calendar. As annual event details may change, it is advisable to check the dates before visiting.

The Saint-Eloi Fountain

The restored Saint-Eloi Fountain is a monumental covered fountain. A low stone wall surrounds the basin; directly beside it is a rectangular masonry washhouse. These architectural details set the fountain apart from the military structures and water activities: here, the focus is on traditional architecture.
