Ytrac lies between the Authre and Cère valleys. This offers several different ways to plan your trip: Château d'Ytrac, Saint-Julien d'Ytrac Church, a very easy walking trail, and various options for cycling and nature lovers. You can choose culture and outdoor activities according to your interests, rather than treating everything on offer as one single programme. Those interested in architectural and art history will find points of interest in the château and the church; those who want to get outdoors can choose between a walk, the Forêt de Branviel woodland and several cycling routes.

Culture and History in Ytrac

Château d'Ytrac is one of the châteaux that can be visited in Ytrac. Another point of cultural and historical interest is Saint-Julien d'Ytrac Church. It was rebuilt in 1844 based on a 12th-century church; traces of the earlier building remain in parts of the vault. It also features Byzantine frescoes by the Russian painter Nicolaï Greschny. The church thus brings together different periods: its medieval origins, its 19th-century reconstruction and the frescoes as a distinct artistic feature. Those interested in architecture can consider the building's history and its wall paintings as two different aspects of the church.

Arsène Vermenouze adds a literary dimension to the area's cultural history. He was born on 26 September 1850 in Vielle, in the commune of Ytrac. In Cantal, he was a leading figure and a symbol of the renaissance of the langue d'oc. His connection to the area and his cultural significance are evident in two ways: Vielle directly links his biography to Ytrac, while his role is part of Cantal's cultural history.

Walking and the Forêt de Branviel

The Sentier de la Poésie is a 2.4 km very easy walking trail; allow about an hour to complete it. Its length, difficulty level and approximate duration provide clear guidance if you are looking for a walk that takes a manageable amount of time. The Forêt de Branviel, by contrast, offers opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding. Several trails invite you to discover the local flora and fauna. There is parking nearby and an information board at the forest. You can choose between a single walk with a specified distance and a woodland area with a variety of trails and activities. Check the latest trail and visitor information before your visit.

Mountain Biking Routes and Scenery

The Tour d'Ytrac mountain biking circuit alternates between short technical sections and wide, easy-to-ride trails. It starts in the library car park at the entrance to Ytrac. As route details and access information may change, check the information before setting out. Another option is the Ytrac–Sansac-de-Marmiesse mountain biking connection: its first section runs through woodland and is suitable for beginners and family outings. When choosing a route, you can therefore distinguish between the circuit's varied trail profile and the woodland section described for the connection.

Another mountain biking connection, Ytrac–Le Barrage, links the Aurillac Basin with Lac de Saint-Etienne-Cantalès and passes through bocage countryside. The choice of routes thus also offers different regional points of interest: the Tour d'Ytrac circuit centres on its varied trail sections, while Ytrac–Le Barrage is characterised by its link between the basin and the lake, as well as the bocage landscape. Together with the options in the Forêt de Branviel, this gives cyclists a choice of a circuit, a woodland section or a regional connection.
