Naucelles offers a range of things to explore during a stay: artistic work at Le Parapluie, digital cultural outreach through the Micro-Folie, and local history centred on the church and tower. There are also sports facilities and two safe walking routes to the Bourg. The offerings also differ in who visits are intended for and what conditions to consider when planning.
Le Parapluie and its work in street arts
Le Parapluie is a centre created specifically to develop street arts projects. Its facilities include workshops for building stage and event elements, a dance studio and an outdoor area for setting up big tops. Its work therefore ranges from practical preparation to dance and erecting the tents.
Visits are available throughout the year for schools and other groups: they can explore the site and meet a company working there in residence. If you plan your trip around such a visit, bear in mind that it is intended for groups.
Digital cultural outreach and changing formats
The Micro-Folie Naucelles & Auhtre offers a different way to engage with culture: it provides digital access to works from major national and international cultural institutions. Its outreach activities are participatory and are complemented by creative workshops, games, readings or craft activities.
By contrast, Le Parapluie focuses on developing street arts projects and the workspaces they require; the Micro-Folie centres on digital cultural outreach and related activities. Collections and programmes may change. If a particular offering is important to your plans, check the current programme.
Church, tower and local history
The present-day Saint-Christophe church, dedicated to Saint Christopher, is a small building in a rustic Gothic style. A few steps away, the Tour de Naucelles stands on an artificial mound. It was a signal tower with a lookout post and appears to date from the late 9th century. The church also houses an old enamel painting depicting Christ on the cross, apparently from the Byzantine period.
Édouard Serre is also part of local memory: Naucelles honours him as a pioneer of aviation. The municipality has taken over his grave and is responsible for its restoration and maintenance. Local history thus brings together architectural landmarks and the memory of a person.
Sport and routes through the village
The Centre Omnisports de la Vallée de l’Authre adds sport to the cultural and historical attractions. Tennis, basketball, handball, table tennis and archery are practised there. Clubs based outside the municipality of Naucelles can rent the centre; they should confirm the rental conditions before making plans.
For walking, the Voies douces provide safe routes from the Cité Beauséjour to the Bourg and from Reilhac to the Bourg as well. The routes may change, so check them before setting off. These are practical walking connections alongside the cultural, historical and sporting attractions, though not all activities have the same visitor arrangements.
