Labrousse offers two specific perspectives to help you plan your trip: hikes with published route details, and themes related to geology and rural history. During your stay, you can choose between a short walking trail rated easy, longer routes and cultural attractions. Details on distance, ascent and approximate walking time help you compare hiking options according to your schedule.
Hiking by Distance and Ascent
The «La Roche de Moissac» walking trail is 1.5 km long and rated easy. Along the trail are animal sculptures created by a local resident. These installations may be seasonal or dependent on maintenance. The short route combines a stated difficulty level with a local artistic touch; do not assume that the sculptures will be there all year round.
The «Les Travers» hike is 7 km long, takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, has 220 metres of ascent and is marked in blue. For planning your day, you can consider the distance, approximate duration and ascent together. The trail marking adds another specific feature of the route.
The «Combret – Marso – Fontrouge» circular route covers 6 km with 150 metres of ascent. Compared directly with «Les Travers», it is shorter and has less ascent, making it possible to distinguish between the two based on their published distances and elevation gains.
The «Labrousse – Prat – Roche de Moissac» circular route is 10.5 km long, making it the longest of the four routes described. It is at the upper end of the selection, compared with the 1.5 km walking trail, and illustrates the range of route lengths.
Route details may change when signage or maintenance is updated. Check the trail signs before setting out.
Geology and Rural History
The Musée de Prat presents the regional geology, including the inverted relief associated with the volcanic activity of the Cantal. It also covers rural life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum also depicts traditional trades such as wheelwright, blacksmith, clog maker and galoche maker. Here, a geological perspective on the region meets the working life of earlier generations. Visitors interested in the connection between landscape history and everyday craft culture will find both perspectives here.
The Ecomusée de la Terre et des Hommes is located in Prat, in Labrousse.
Natural Site of Roche de Prat
Roche de Prat is a natural site in Labrousse. An association aims to protect the integrity of the site and preserve animal and plant species. Its efforts encompass the site itself and its biodiversity, not just one particular animal or plant species. For travellers interested in nature conservation, this local commitment complements the hiking and museum themes with a distinct focus.
