Saint-Prix brings together several distinct travel interests: railway architecture, a 12th-century chapel and the cheese offerings of Ferme des Vérités. The Viaduc de Lapalisse ou de Saint-Prix, Chapelle Notre-Dame de Beaulieu and the goat farm each have their own appeal. When choosing what to visit, consider whether you are more interested in architectural history, religious tradition or a culinary visit to a farm. The Route N7 Historique is also present in Saint-Prix.

Railway Bridge and Station History

The Viaduc de Lapalisse ou de Saint-Prix is a stone railway bridge built of masonry, with eight arches. This distinctive structure is a focal point of the railway heritage. Another landmark is Gare de Lapalisse - Saint-Prix station. It was built between 1852 and 1857 during construction of the railway line. Its origins can therefore be dated to the mid-19th century. The station has been closed to passenger rail traffic since at least 2012. Bear this status in mind if you are planning to travel by train.

Chapel and Religious Tradition

Chapelle Notre-Dame de Beaulieu is a 12th-century chapel in Beaulieu, Saint-Prix. Numerous miracles are attributed to the chapel; these accounts form part of the religious tradition surrounding it. Its age and the stories associated with it offer two different ways to approach the site: the building can be placed in its historical period, while the accounts of miracles shape the religious narrative surrounding the chapel. If you are interested in religious architecture, you can take both aspects into account when choosing what to visit.

Ferme des Vérités: Visits and Cheese

Ferme des Vérités in Saint-Prix offers visits to its goat farm by appointment; cheese is also sold at the farm. The cheeses on offer include “mâconnais”, “Saint-Chevrolin”, “bûche”, “tonneau” and “Giraudon”. “Giraudon” was developed as an intermediate form between “Saint-Chevrolin” and “bûche”. The farm sells its products on site and at markets. Alongside a look at the agricultural operation, the farm offers a specific range of cheeses.

Route N7 Historique

In Saint-Prix, the Route N7 Historique is marked by a consistent historical signage system. Its information system includes town entrance, welcome, history and location signs. A tourism brochure for the route is available in the Pays de Lapalisse. If you would like to use it for your planning, check in advance where it is currently available. The route is a distinct historical highlight alongside the buildings and the chapel.
