Marcheprime offers several distinct points of interest to consider when planning a trip: the church’s architectural history, early aviation and radio technology at Croix d’Hins, parks and cultural and seasonal offerings. For planning purposes, it is worth distinguishing historical topics from time-specific programmes. This lets you plan your days around your interests and check dates in advance for seasonal offerings.
Church, Aviation and Radio History
The church in Marcheprime was built by Émile Pereire in 1862. The initials E. P. are still engraved beneath its vault. The year it was built and the surviving inscription provide two specific historical points of reference for the church: a known date and a detail on the building. For travellers interested in architectural history, the town’s past can be seen in a particular building.
Beyond the church’s history, Croix d’Hins draws attention to aviation and radio technology. In 1909, the site was home to the first airfield in the Gironde département; it was also where Léon Delagrange made his first flight in the Gironde. An early airfield and a specific aviation event thus offer distinct ways to explore the area’s history.
The Lafayette TSF station built at Croix d’Hins was the world’s most powerful radiotelegraph station. Four buildings dating from its construction, as well as the ruins of the former workshop and former dining hall, remain on the station site. These buildings and ruins point to the former facility, while the link to the airfield opens up another historical topic. A commemorative stele was erected at the Croix d’Hins site on 10 January 2010.
Parks and Different Leisure Interests
The Parc de la Possession offers opportunities for children to play. Reading is listed as an activity at the Parc de l’Église. These details provide two different options for planning your day: playing with children in one park and reading in the other. Fishing is listed as an activity at Lac de Croix d’Hins. If you would like to fish there, check the local rules beforehand.
La Caravelle also offers a cultural option to consider when planning. Its 2025–2026 season programme included theatre, dance, singing and comedy. The programme changes each year, so if you would like to plan your trip around a cultural event, check the relevant season.
A seasonal offering introduces another topic: the 2026 visitor programme included a visit to the Miellerie in Marcheprime, where honey production from hive to jar was to be explained. Children can make small beeswax candles during the visit. The explanation of the production process is thus combined with a hands-on activity for children. Check which dates suit your trip before making plans.
Getting Around the Town
Thirteen MOBI elements have been installed in Marcheprime: three information totems, five directional poles, two directional poles with maps and three bicycle stands. The signs are intended to make it easier to get around town and encourage sustainable mobility. The collection therefore includes not only directional signs but also information totems and bicycle stands. It complements the cultural, historical and park-related topics with a practical aspect of finding your way around.
