A distinctive way to discover Eysines is through its market gardening: every spring, the Raid des maraîchers brings together routes through the growing area in the Jalle valley, with a choice of ways to get around. Parks, local produce and culture add to the experience. You can shape your stay around what you prefer: spending time outdoors, learning about agriculture, or exploring art and the town’s history.

Green spaces of different sizes

The public Parc du Vigean covers 3.5 hectares and has walking paths and play areas. More than 300 trees and a bamboo grove are also part of this park. Parc Lescombes is another public park: it covers just under 1.6 hectares and is located in the centre of Eysines.

The Domaine du Pinsan offers a different scale. This 50-hectare, nature-oriented area is located in the town centre and is used for recreation and sport. By comparison, Parc du Vigean covers 3.5 hectares, while Parc Lescombes covers just under 1.6 hectares. Walking paths and play areas are specifically mentioned as features of Parc du Vigean; the Domaine du Pinsan is described as a recreation and sports area. The three places therefore differ both in size and in their stated main uses.

Market gardening and seasonal produce

The Raid des maraîchers has taken place every spring since 2005. Routes pass through the market-gardening area in the Jalle valley and can be covered by bicycle, on foot or by horse-drawn carriage. At the event, participants can meet market gardeners on their farms and learn in greenhouses how potatoes, lettuce and kiwifruit grow. The event ends with a producers’ market, where participants can enjoy local seasonal products; the selection may vary from one edition to the next. Dates and registration arrangements may also vary.

Individual products also give the calendar a seasonal focus: Eysines’ new potatoes are harvested in June. The soil of Eysines gives them a unique, slightly sweet flavour. A squash variety with an unusual skin is specific to the commune. Every June, the Confrérie and the Société des fêtes de la Saint-Jean organise the Fête de la patate. Dates and programme may vary from one edition to the next.

Hands-on activities and discoveries

CAP33 offers the chance to try more than 30 sports at the Domaine du Pinsan and in various municipal sports facilities. The activities are open to residents of Eysines and visitors alike; no particular skill level is required. CAP33 is a recurring holiday programme. The activities and dates on offer may vary, so check in advance what is available during your stay.

“Zéfaim garde la patate!” offers another way to explore: the Tèrra-Aventura route in Eysines has a gastronomic theme and is also a geocaching activity. As the route’s status may change, check that it is available before setting out. La cabane du maraîcher is open year-round by appointment. Confirm your appointment before visiting.

Art and local history

The Centre d’art contemporain Château Lescombes is located in Château Lescombes, which was rebuilt around 1600. The art centre holds several exhibitions each year. This brings together a tangible historical landmark and a recurring exhibition programme.

Connaissance d’Eysines offers another way to explore the town’s history on foot. Walks take place on specific dates, depending on the programme; check in advance what is scheduled.

Choose when to travel

The events offer different pointers for planning your trip: the Raid des maraîchers takes place in spring, the Fête de la patate in June, and CAP33 is a recurring holiday programme.
