Visitors considering Morizès as a destination will find a clear focus on architectural history, craftsmanship and hiking. The Église Saint-Maurice, several architecturally distinct houses and the Foyer Rural offer different facets of the local culture. There is also terracotta production, a named hiking route and two visits that require getting in touch or making an appointment in advance. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth distinguishing between activities that must be arranged in advance and the other features of the town.
Church, Houses and Local History
The present-day Église Saint-Maurice de Morizès was built from 1888 to 1892 to designs by Bordeaux architect Emile Hosteing. It is designed in the Neo-Gothic style—a style favoured by church architects in Cardinal Donnet’s circle. Its construction dates, architect and style give the church a clearly defined place in the town’s cultural identity.
The houses also display a variety of forms. The Maison David / Mayle is a bourgeois house with a rural character and a raised ground floor containing utility rooms. The Maison Thibaud appears to date from the mid-19th century; a slight projection and a gable accentuate the central axis of its façade. This dating is approximate.
The Maison Beylard brings together an older house type and classical-inspired ornamentation. Its façade has three bays, with the central openings topped by round arches. The Maison Izotte has an upper floor, five façade bays, a centrally placed entrance and decorative roundel motifs. Comparing the three- and five-bay façades makes their different layouts particularly clear. The palms of Morizès are also considered part of the region’s cultural heritage.
The Foyer Rural was among the very first rural centres built in the Gironde department. It is considered one of the oldest buildings of its kind in the department and one of the most highly regarded. Under one roof, it brought together an event hall that also served as a sports hall, showers and a library. The combination of these functions makes the building a centre for community use.
Terracotta and Visits by Appointment
Tuilerie Bouquet makes handcrafted terracotta items to order for its customers. Visitors are received after making contact by phone in advance. If you would like to include a visit to the workshop in your plans, get in touch by phone beforehand.
In 2026, tours with wine tasting at Château Haut-Pradot are offered by appointment only. The tasting includes the estate’s wines accompanied by homemade sweet treats. If you plan to visit, make an appointment before your trip; this is not a stop for unannounced visitors.
Hiking Route and Motorsport
The Boucle locale des Tuileries is a 14.5-kilometre, moderately difficult hiking route. It starts at Morizès Town Hall. Its length and difficulty rating can help you gauge the hiking involved in your stay; check the latest route details again before setting out.
The Morizès Long-Track Ring showcases another side of the town. It is one of the few facilities in France capable of hosting Long Track races. This makes motorsport another option to explore, alongside the town’s architectural and cultural attractions and hiking route.
