Gundershoffen combines a special culinary experience with trails through hilly countryside and several places with a history of their own. During your stay, you can choose different ways to spend your time: learn about pretzel making, plan walks with views of the Vosges, or explore local cultural history. For practical planning, the specific route format, changing program items and train connections are especially relevant.

Make Pretzel Making Your Focus

La Fabrique à Bretzels offers an interactive visitor experience dedicated to the Alsatian art of pretzel making, spread across 500 m². You can watch Boehli pretzels being made, from preparing the dough to packaging. The visit also includes a tasting at the Bretzel’Bar. If you are interested in food production, you can combine a look at the production process with a sample. Operating details may change, so check the latest information before your visit.

Hilly Countryside and Hiking Trails

Gundershoffen is located in hilly countryside on the Northern Vosges Massif, between the Falkensteinerbach and the Lauterbach. Walks along the heights and hills offer views of the Vosges. For planning longer outings, there are two different types of route to choose from: one hiking trail passes through Gundershoffen, Froeschwiller and Reichshoffen in sequence. Another is a circular route connecting Froeschwiller, Reichshoffen and Gundershoffen and passing through varied landscapes.

The main difference, then, is the route format described: the first trail focuses on the sequence of the three places, while the other is explicitly laid out as a circular route. Before setting out, check the latest trail conditions and access information. This lets you plan around the route format that suits you, without assuming a particular walking time or difficulty level.

The La Breitmatt pond is a fishing spot; local access conditions may change. The La Breitmatt family and tourism area has sports equipment, football and basketball courts, shaded picnic tables and a playground. These include a slide, climbing nets, a climbing spider and swings. Facilities may also change, so it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.

Local History and Culture

The Jewish cemetery in Gundershoffen was established in 1815. The older section, dated from 1815 to 1932, contains 739 graves and 294 vacant burial plots; the new section has been in use since 1924. These dates make it possible to trace the site’s development across several periods.

Another historic landmark is the Catholic Church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur. It was built in 1908 after joint use of what is now the Protestant church was discontinued. The church is designed in the Neo-Romanesque style. Its nave has five bays and ends in a semicircular apse. Gundershoffen thus brings together different aspects of local history: the Jewish cemetery and the architectural history of its churches.

La Mironde is an eco-venue in an old mill in Gundershoffen. Its activities focus on culture, art and the environment. Since 2025, the cultural program has included theatre, concerts and nature-watching outings; the program may change. If you would like to include an event in your stay, check in advance what is on offer during your travel dates.
