Kirkkonummi can be explored through several distinct themes: rocky coastal landscapes, trails with clearly defined destinations and historic museum sites. When choosing where to stay, it helps to decide what matters most to you first: should nature take centre stage through sea views and birdlife, a particular trail or a cultural site? The Meiko trails in particular make it easy to compare distances and destinations.
Coast and Birdlife
The landscape of Porkkalanniemi is shaped by rocky shores, pine forest and beautiful sea views. This makes it a good choice for travellers who place particular importance on coastal scenery and views of the sea. Porkkala is an important resting place for common eiders and is also home to a sizeable population of eiders.
Three Trails in the Meiko Nature Area
The Kuikankierros is 3.2 km long and leads from the Meiko Lake car park to the lake and around the Näseudden peninsula. The Meikonkierros is an 8.3 km loop around Lake Meiko; there is a campfire site along the route. Between the two is the 4.4 km Kotokierros, which leads from the Meiko car park to the ponds on the Dorgarn plateau, including Korsolampi, Immerlampi, Kakarlampi, Kotolampi and Mustjärvi. There is also a campfire site on this trail, as well as a camping area. The similar-sounding names Kuikankierros and Meikonkierros refer to different destinations: one trail goes around the peninsula, while the other circles the lake. The Kotokierros adds ponds to the destination; in addition to the campfire site, there is a camping area.
Historic Museum Sites
The Ragvalds Museum grounds are a traditional farmstead on the Old King's Road. The farm’s twelve buildings still stand in their original locations. Its historic character can be understood through two specific aspects: the farm’s connection to the old road and the spatial continuity of its buildings. Ragvalds thus provides a distinct cultural focus alongside the nature-related themes.
The Hvitträsk Museum adds a dated seasonal window to the cultural sites. In 2026, it was open from 1 May to 30 September, Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 am to 5 pm. As this season has now ended, check the opening hours applicable to your visit before travelling at a later date.
Seasonal Activity Highlight
Peuramaa Ski offers another focus. The facility has a dedicated slope area for children, Finland’s longest conveyor-belt lift and a range of themed activities. Check its seasonal operations before your trip. The timing information therefore differs for planning purposes: Hvitträsk has specific dates, days of the week and hours, while Peuramaa Ski’s seasonal operations need to be checked.
