Sipoo brings together several distinct travel interests: easy nature trails of varying lengths, a local handicrafts museum, two churches close to each other, and recreation areas in the archipelago. When planning, it helps to choose your focus first. If you want to spend time outdoors, you can compare two trails by distance and approximate time needed; if you’re looking for culture, you can learn about both local handicrafts and earlier ways of life. The archipelago adds travel by water to these experiences.

Sipoonkorpi National Park

Sipoonkorpi National Park is part of the Natura 2000 network and is located in the municipality of Sipoo and the cities of Helsinki and Vantaa. Its designation establishes the park as a protected area; the three place names also help put its geographical extent into context. Sipoo is one of the places explicitly named, not the only one.

Comparing two easy trails

The Byabäcken Nature Trail is an easy 1.4 km route; as a loop, it is 2.1 km long. It takes about one hour. The Korvenportti Trail is also easy: 2.2 km, or 4.4 km as a loop, with an approximate duration of one to two hours. Byabäcken is therefore the shorter option based on the stated trail distances; its approximate duration is shorter, too. If you’re planning a loop, compare the loop distances of 2.1 km and 4.4 km. For a shorter option, the distances of 1.4 km and 2.2 km are the relevant ones. You can choose based on distance and approximate time. Both trails are rated easy, so the preferred length and duration can be the deciding factors; the trails do not differ in difficulty.

Sibbesgården: Handicrafts and earlier ways of life

Sibbesgården is a local handicrafts museum in Gesterby, one of the oldest villages in Sipoo. Several old buildings on the museum grounds show visitors how people in Sipoo lived in the past. Local handicrafts and earlier ways of life thus offer two different perspectives on the area’s history.

Sipoo’s old and new churches

Sipoo’s old and new churches are only a few hundred metres apart and together form a unique cultural landscape. The old church, also known as Pyhän Sigfridin kirkko, was built in the 1450s. Visiting the old church requires an appointment and the presence of the sexton; arrange your visit in advance.

Recreation areas in the archipelago

Sipoo’s archipelago has freely accessible recreation areas with campfire sites, dining areas and dry toilets; facilities may vary from one area to another. You can reach the archipelago by connecting boat, the BOUT boat service, rental kayaks or private watercraft. Plan your journey and the specific recreation area together: check which facilities are important at your chosen location, and check the timetable in advance if travelling by connecting boat.
