Ingå combines a distinctive cultural site in the centre with views and opportunities for activity right in the village. Across the municipality, nature trails, coastal landscapes and experiences in the archipelago add to the appeal. You can plan your stay around culture, scenery or activities on the water.

Church and views in the village

Ingå Church stands in the centre of Ingå and is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of seafarers. On its north wall is the 16th-century mural Dance of Death. It depicts the course of the Black Death and adds a distinctive cultural and historical feature. The dedication and mural offer two different points of interest if you are interested in sacred art and history.

Prästgårdsberget is right in the middle of the village. Completed in summer 2026, the observation tower offers views over Ingå kyrkby and Kyrkfjärden. The movement staircase is also on Prästgårdsberget: it is 104 metres long, runs in a zigzag and has several landings with benches. The stairs are suitable both for training and for Sunday strolls. The same hill thus offers views and opportunities for exercise as distinct attractions.

Nature trails and coastal landscapes in the municipality

The nature trail in Västankvarn opened in 2025 and offers circular routes of 1.75 and 3.2 kilometres. Landscape features along the trail include old-growth forest, a hazel grove, marsh and wetland, as well as the Kalbergshyllorna rock formation. The two distances give you a clear guide when choosing a route; the surroundings combine woodland and wetland scenery with a distinctive rock formation.

The Kopparnäs-Störsviken recreation area features a 15-kilometre stretch of undeveloped coastline. The area is suitable for walking, running and cycling. An observation tower for birdwatching provides an opportunity to watch migratory birds. If you choose an outing primarily for the scenery and exercise, you will find different options here than on a visit focused on birdwatching.

Another waterside setting is the shallow strait with a sandy bottom between Porsö and Ryssklobben, formerly called Porsöklobben. It is suitable for swimming and paddling, but is not navigable by large boats. This restriction is important if you are planning to go out in a larger boat. On Porsö, visitors can also enter some of the bunkers of the former coastal fort; there are also decommissioned, camouflaged guns and fire-control towers. Visiting conditions may change, so check them in advance.

Island stays and cultural history

Gölisnäs is at the southern tip of the island of Orslandet in Ingå. Archipelago forest, sheltered bays, coastal cliffs and small paths through hilly terrain define the natural character of this recreation area. It has several jetties, fire pits, two saunas and overnight accommodation. Facilities may vary depending on maintenance and the season.

Stora Halsö also has a jetty, buoys and mooring rings at its northern end. The island has a fire pit, a pit toilet and a self-service sauna; facilities may change. Stora Fagerö is easy to land on. The island offers services and numerous camping sites. The island facilities described therefore differ in their amenities and the overnight options mentioned.

The Fagervik ironworks, which can be explored on foot, is part of the municipality’s cultural history. The museum there covers the history of the ironworks and the manor. The local history museum offers a different perspective on Ingå: it displays more than 20 historic buildings, most of them built through community effort. The buildings and objects come from different parts of Ingå.

Activities and practical planning

For trips on the water, the SE-Actions paddling centre rents out single and double kayaks, SUP boards and canoes. Paddles, life jackets and waterproof dry bags are included in the rental price. Rental equipment and service details may change; check the current offer when planning your trip. Kayak trips and fishing excursions with professional guides are also available in the marine environment of the Ingå archipelago. Guided fishing trips last four to seven hours. They depart from Ingå harbour, Barösund, Kopparnäs or the customer’s jetty; availability and departure details may change.

Horse-riding lessons and rides through the countryside are also available in the municipality of Ingå: several stables offer both, although individual services may change. Buses and various transport services are available across the municipality for getting there and planning onward travel; archipelago transport operates year-round. Before travelling, check the services and operators relevant to your plans.
