When looking for accommodation in Dronninglund, you can plan your stay around different interests: forest and water, church and mill history, or individual sports activities. Each place and activity has its own focus, so you can choose how to balance nature, culture and exercise.

Forest Trails, Water and a Unique Cycling Experience

Dronninglund Storskov lies at the southern end of the Jyske Ås and covers 961 hectares. Three marked hiking trails offer different distances: the Sømoseruten is 2 or 3 km long, the Bøgeskovsruten 3.5 or 6 km, and the Nåleskovsruten 5 km. This allows you to choose a hike that suits your preferred distance.

Øster Møllesø offers a different perspective on nature. The lake is in Dronninglund and covers 24,000 m²; a walk around it offers lovely views of the water. Forest trails and the path by the lake therefore offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Dronninglund Nature Park is located between Dronninglund and Dronninglund Slot. The park has a mini-golf course, as well as tennis and padel courts. Check what is currently available before your visit, as the recreational facilities may change.

Forheksede Bakke in Dronninglund Storskov also offers a unique cycling experience: the water appears to flow uphill. Alongside the marked hiking trails, there is this named cycling experience and its unusual optical effect.

Church and Monastery History

Dronninglund Church was built between 1160 and 1200 as the monastery church of the Hundslund convent. Its frescoes include depictions of the Nine Worthies—a motif not known from other churches. Today, the church is structurally connected to Dronninglund Manor. Its construction period, monastic connections and frescoes give the church a clearly defined historical profile.

Dronninglund Slot also traces its origins to the original Hundslund Monastery, which was probably founded by Benedictine nuns in the 12th century. The castle is closed to the public, but can be viewed from the outside. Check current access arrangements before your visit.

Mills, Collections and Art

Øster Mølle is a 16th-century watermill that belonged to Dronninglund Slot. The listed mill complex at Dorf Møllegürd includes a 17th-century watermill. Dorf Møllegürd also tells the story of life on a mill farm in the early 20th century. A scenic path leads from there around the millpond. As path conditions may change, check them when planning your visit.

The Egnssamlingen for Østvendsyssel tells the story of Østvendsyssel from the Stone Age to the mid-20th century. Høstdagen is an annual tradition at the collection. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the current event dates.

Dronninglund Art Centre is a 1,200 m², three-storey exhibition venue built in 1977. From March to November, it presents changing exhibitions. Check the current programme before your visit if a particular exhibition is important to your plans.

Golf in the Forest

Dronninglund Golf Club has an 18-hole woodland course and welcomes visiting players. If you would like to plan a round of golf, check the current visitor rules in advance, as visitor arrangements may change.
