The view from Præstegårdshede across the bog, Mulbjergene, Tofte Skov and the Kattegat is a striking introduction to Kongerslev’s very hilly landscape. The town lies close to Lille Vildmose and combines this natural setting with a church, recreational opportunities and a specific railway history. If you are looking for accommodation in Kongerslev, these different themes can help you get a sense of the destination: you can weigh up whether nature, architectural history, outdoor recreation or transport history holds the greatest appeal for your trip.

Hills, heath and views

There are Bronze Age burial mounds on Præstegårdshede, from where the view stretches across the bog, Mulbjergene, Tofte Skov and the Kattegat. The burial mounds give the landscape a historical dimension, while the view encompasses several named landscape features. Visitors who want to consider nature and culture together will find both themes side by side on the heath. The proximity to Lille Vildmose and the very hilly terrain provide a further context for Kongerslev’s landscape.

Church and architectural history

Sønder Kongerslev Church is in the southern part of Kongerslev. Its Romanesque chancel and nave can be distinguished from the features of the tower: it is octagonal and topped with a pyramidal roof. The building thus brings together two types of architectural description: the chancel and nave are Romanesque, while the tower is notable for its shape and roof. For travellers interested in architectural history, it offers a specific point of reference for distinguishing between different building components and forms.

Recreation at Mølledam and in the nature park

Mølledam is in the old town centre and has a recreational area with tables, as well as opportunities for children to play and fish. Kongerslev Nature Park offers opportunities for recreation and areas where children can play. The two places have different focuses: tables and fishing are among the facilities at Mølledam, while recreation and play areas are the focus at the nature park. This lets you plan according to your preferred activities. As recreational facilities may change, check their current status before visiting.

Ice skating, subject to clearance

Aalborg Municipality has designated Mølledam as a place for outdoor ice skating. This is permitted only when a sign indicates that the ice has been cleared for use; the ice must also be at least 13 cm thick. The municipality’s seasonal guidance was updated in June 2026. Before visiting, check whether the clearance sign is in place: Mølledam’s designation alone does not satisfy this requirement.

Kongerslev’s railway history

A specific historical reference point is the opening of the Hadsund Railway on 1 December 1900. At that time, Kongerslev played a central role in regional railway traffic. From the outset, the station had loading tracks, a pigsty and a siding with a headshunt ramp. A headshunt ramp is a ramp at the end of a track; along with the loading tracks, it is one of the specific details of the station’s facilities.

The railway was used to transport peat from Vildmosen to Aalborg. There, the peat was used as an energy source for the city’s power station and cement factories. The station’s facilities illustrate the infrastructure, while the peat transport establishes a specific connection between railway traffic and the use of this raw material. Kongerslev’s role in regional railway traffic can thus be linked to another aspect: transport to Aalborg and the use of the peat there.
