Handbjerg Marina is located in Venø Bay on the Limfjord, between Vinderup and Struer. The marina brings together boating services and activities on the water; towards Vinderup, the Handbjerg Strandenge lie along the fjord. This gives you two distinct focuses to choose from when planning your trip: spending time at the marina or taking walks in the nearby coastal area. You can decide which should shape your stay by looking at the activities and seasonal offerings.
Marina, boats and activities
Handbjerg Marina has 200 berths. Both day visitors and annual pass holders can use the slipway. Bicycles and kayaks can be rented through the Grejbank. You can also rent a boat at Handbjerg Marina and explore the Limfjord on your own. There are good opportunities for windsurfing, too, and mini golf adds to the leisure activities.
Handbjerg Marina's barefoot sensory trail offers a more tranquil way to experience the coastal materials: feel sand, stones and shells underfoot. This means that sensory experiences, as well as boating activities and exercise, are part of the offer, without the need to plan a trip on the water.
Swimming in different seasons
Badeøen is accessible via the bridge next to the nature playground. The very shallow water is suitable for swimming with small children. In the lagoon at Handbjerg Marina, between the western breakwater and the inner mole, there is a diving platform for headfirst dives during the summer season.
The beach at Handbjerg Marina has a sandy bottom. At low tide, visitors can walk a long way out from the beach without getting their trousers wet. Bathing and toilet facilities are also available at the marina. Dogs are welcome there on a lead.
Visitors can buy guest tickets for winter swimming with Vinterbaderne Handbjerg Marina; the sauna and shower are included. The water activities therefore vary by season: during the summer season, the lagoon's diving platform is available, while the guest tickets combine winter swimming with access to the sauna and shower.
Walks and history by the fjord
You can walk along the fjord in the nearby Handbjerg Strandenge. The Strandenge stretch along the fjord towards Vinderup and are a protected bird area. This coastal area offers a different focus from the marina: a walk by the fjord rather than boating and swimming activities.
Handbjerg Kirke also adds a historical dimension to the area. The church was built during the great church-building period of the 12th and 13th centuries. Along with the water-based activities and the Strandenge, it offers another side of Handbjerg, so your stay need not focus solely on the marina.
Accommodation and planning
On the eastern side of the breakwater at Handbjerg Marina, there are two shelters, each with six sleeping places. Another accommodation option is a shelter belonging to Handbjerg Borgerforening in Søparken, at the end of Fjordglimt; it can be booked. As availability may change, it is best to check before making plans. The shelters are specific accommodation options, while the activities by the fjord and at the marina can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.
