Hakkemosen offers year-round opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. These include a shelter, a fire pit, hammocks and meals in the open air. Visitors can gather edible plants there, catch fish in Hakkemosesøen and prepare their food at the fire pit by the shelter. Here, enjoying nature and preparing a meal go hand in hand.
The giant troll sculpture Teddy Venlig by artist Thomas Dambo makes for an unusual sight. It stands in Hakkemosen and was made from recycled materials. Those interested in outdoor art will find a work whose materials are as striking as its size.
Water, greenery and active trails
Selsmosen is a water park in the heart of Taastrup. It has a raft, a water maze, a climbing bridge, stepping stones and beach volleyball. The lake is home to a diverse range of birds and other wildlife. The mix of water-based activities and wildlife watching gives the place several distinct draws, so you don't have to settle on just one activity.
Hedeland Nature Park covers more than 1,000 hectares of hills, lakes and green spaces. It was created from a former gravel-mining landscape. At its center are a ski slope and a viewpoint; the path to the summit climbs 50 metres. Hedeland Amphitheatre is an open-air venue transformed from a gravel pit, with more than 4,000 seats. These details tell the story both of today's recreational landscape and of its former use.
Hedelands Veteranbane also offers a distinctive way to explore the former gravel-mining area: the train journey is five kilometres long and has eight stops where visitors can get off. Seasonal operating details are not specified here, so check when the train runs before setting out.
Marked routes and local history
The marked Høje-Taastrup Marathon Ring is 42 kilometres long and intended for walking, running and cycling. Shorter sections of 30, 21, 10 and 7 kilometres let you choose your distance. The Kløverstier offer another way to discover themes along the way: four marked routes of different lengths start at Taastrup Library. The red Kløversti leads to St. Vejleådal; the black route tells the story of Taastrup, from the construction of Høje Taastrup Church in the early Middle Ages through the brick industry of the 19th century to modern urban development around Selsmosen.
One of the Kløverstier also passes Taastrup Culture Centre, the local history archive at Blåkildegård and the disc golf area in Mølleparken. The marked routes thus offer different perspectives: individual sights, cultural venues and a historical narrative. Høje Taastrup Church itself is a large village church dating from the early 12th century; its tower is 30 metres high.
Vikingebro is a route of roads and bridges through the landscape of Store Vejleådalen, between Høje-Taastrup and Albertslund. The structure is 700 metres long and was completed in 2019. The archive at Blaakildegaard, Skolevej 54 in Taastrup, has storage areas, exhibition rooms, a reading room and administrative rooms spread across the farm's four wings.
Museum, stage and events
Kroppedal Museum is the local museum for the municipalities of Albertslund and Høje-Taastrup. Its offerings include exhibitions, guided town tours, lectures and other events on archaeology, astronomy and recent history—for children, young people and adults. The museum grounds also include a 140-metre-long natural obstacle course in the garden. During the winter season, from October through March, the museum hosts evenings with popular science talks and opportunities for observation. Individual programmes change, so check the latest dates before visiting.
Taastrup Theatre and Music House is a professional theatre and venue for concerts, theatre performances and a variety of shows. Opera Hedeland also offers its own way to experience culture: the organisation stages operas in an amphitheatre in the Hedeland landscape, at Tranemosevej 8 in Hedehusene. Performances and schedules may change. Opera Hedeland offers a free shuttle bus from the west side of Høje Taastrup Station, by the taxis; check whether the shuttle is available before travelling.
Getting here and the wider landscape
Høje Taastrup Station is on the Vestbanen line between Copenhagen Central Station and Roskilde. It is the terminus for S-train lines B and Bx and is also served by InterCity and regional trains. Check the current timetable when planning your journey.
In the wider region, St. Vejleådal extends as an 11.3-kilometre green corridor between the municipalities of Høje-Taastrup and Albertslund. Its landscape includes lakes, streams, meadows, scrub, woodland, wetlands, marshland, coastal meadows and occasional artificial hills. Also in the wider area, Vestskoven covers 1,400 hectares and four municipalities: Albertslund, Høje-Taastrup, Glostrup and Ballerup. The five-kilometre Kringelstien passes through woodland, along marshes and past hills, and is suitable for wheelchair users. As local conditions can change, check them before your trip.
