Forests, lakes, marshes and dry grasslands shape Allerød Municipality. Protected natural areas and designated hiking and cycling routes sit alongside archaeological traces, historic architecture and cultural offerings.
Nature and Trails
Friluftsguiden offers hiking and cycling routes throughout the municipality. The Kløverstierne in Lillerød and Lynge provide a specific point of reference: example route lengths of 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 kilometres are listed for them. The different distances offer a basis for comparison when planning a route to suit your preferred distance.
Several natural areas in Allerød are protected or designated as nature reserves; some are home to rare habitat types and rare animals and plants. Allerød Sø and Kattehale Mose together form a contiguous protected natural area with pastures, lakes, peat bogs, grassland and woodland. Many orchids can be seen there in spring and summer. If you would like to plan for this seasonal nature-watching opportunity, take the flowering period into account when choosing your travel dates.
At Lynge Grusgrav, good paths wind through hilly terrain and are suitable for walks. Buresøbadet is a larger bathing spot with a bathing jetty; check current bathing conditions before swimming. Passengers on the Blovstrød Banen can get off at Oscar Jensens Bro and take a walk in the area around Allerød Sø. Check the operator’s current timetable before travelling.
History and Townscapes
The well-preserved Dæmpegårdsdysse is a megalithic tomb dating from around 3400 BC. Bastrup Tårnet, also known as Bastrup Ruin, is a medieval ruin on Bastrup Sø. The tower dates from the 12th century and is among the largest structures in Northern Europe from that period. These two sites represent different historical eras, from a megalithic tomb to a medieval ruin.
The preserved Blovstrød Teglværk complex includes Remisen, a pottery with three brick kilns and a carpentry workshop. Blovstrød Gadekær is a village centre protected for its cultural and historical value. Its townscape includes a village pond, trimmed poplars, individual deciduous trees, as well as old farms, a church and a public school. Here, the historic character is shaped not by a single building, but by the interplay of the listed landscape and architectural elements.
Culture and Events
Mungo Park is based in Allerød and develops and presents new stage stories there throughout the year. The theatre is a three-minute walk from Allerød Station; check local transport information before travelling. Allerød Bio is a cinema run by an association, showing premiere films and special screenings such as Babybio, Seniorbio and Operabio. Check the current programme before your visit.
Allerød Bibliotek is also a cultural meeting place, with events, talks and exhibitions. LAFAK collects local historical source material about the region’s past and makes it publicly accessible. Kunstmarked på Øen is held annually: local artists exhibit and sell paintings, ceramics, jewellery and other works there.
Lynge Byfest combines a flea market, musical entertainment, a tombola and local refreshments with a festive atmosphere. Food and drink on offer include hot sandwiches, grilled sausages, beer and homemade cake. The programme and offerings may vary from one edition to another. In the centre of Allerød, the Byforum Allerød association works to foster a lively, well-functioning town centre with active commerce and cultural and social activities. The centre also aims to attract visitors from other towns with its culture, shops, events and atmosphere.
When planning your trip, seasonal nature experiences and cultural offerings with different schedules can therefore go hand in hand: orchids can be seen in spring and summer, Mungo Park develops and presents new stage stories throughout the year, and Kunstmarked på Øen is held annually. Check the specific dates for events and the current programme for cinema visits.
