Annisse offers several specific reasons to visit: a lakeside walk by Arresø, the marked Esrum-Tisvildevejen pilgrimage route, the Romanesque Annisse Church and the grape harvest, which Garbolund invites everyone to join each year in October. Whether you would rather focus on hiking, the landscape, architectural history or a seasonal event is a choice you can make based on these different highlights.

Hiking between Annisse and Ramløse

The day hike between Annisse and Ramløse is about 12 kilometres long and follows a quiet, narrow path along the shore of Arresø. There are good opportunities along the way to experience the lake’s wildlife. Two specific features therefore stand out for a day of hiking: the approximate distance and the route along the shore. Check local conditions before setting out.

The marked Esrum-Tisvildevejen pilgrimage route passes through Annisse; one of its stages runs from Annisse to Ramløse. This offers a different point of reference from the day hike: the latter has a stated length of about 12 kilometres, while for the pilgrimage route, the marking, the route through Annisse and the stage are the relevant points. This lets you decide whether to focus on the named day hike or on its place within a pilgrimage route.

Landscape by Arresø

Hovgårds Pynt, north of Annisse, offers a good view across Arresø. The site is also part of the Natura 2000 site N134 “Arresø, Ellemose og Lille Lyngby Mose”. The view and the protected-area designation describe two different aspects of the same place: the view of the lake and the designated natural area. The perspectives differ when choosing a landscape: the day hike follows the lakeshore, while Hovgårds Pynt offers a view across Arresø.

History at Hovgårds Pynt and in Annisse

Near Annisse, Hovgårds Pynt is home to a cultural site with numerous finds from the Iron Age, the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. The sequence spans the Iron Age, the Viking Age and the Middle Ages, making the historical range easy to place in context.

Annisse Church is a Romanesque rubble-stone building with granite corners, situated on a hill by Arresø. Rubble-stone construction refers to masonry made of irregular natural stones; the granite corners are another specific architectural feature. The church was first mentioned around 1175. This date refers to its first mention, not necessarily to when construction began. The architecture and the historical reference therefore offer two different points of reference: the building’s design and the time when the church was mentioned in writing.

The time perspectives also differ: the cultural site illustrates finds from several periods, while the church information provides a specific written historical reference. Archaeological finds and the written record of the church thus offer different ways of understanding the past.

Grape harvest in October

Every year in October, Garbolund invites everyone interested to take part in the grape harvest. If this activity is an important factor in choosing when to travel, plan your trip for October and check the seasonal details in advance, as they may change.
