More than 60 percent of Albertslund’s area is covered by woodland and green spaces. Cycle paths connect residential areas, villages and green parks. Greenery is thus a recurring theme throughout local discoveries, from Herstedhøje to Kongsholmparken.
Green spaces and getting around Herstedhøje
Naturcenter Herstedhøje and the surrounding area are easily accessible for wheelchair users. If you require specific assistance, confirm accessibility before travelling. You can reach the nature centre by taking the S-train to Albertslund Station and continuing from there by bus; check the connections before setting off, as they may change.
There is a specific time window for driving to the top of Herstedhøje: on the first working day of each month, access by car, bus or mobility vehicle is possible from 9 am to 3 pm. Check this arrangement before your visit.
Experience and discover the Viking Age
At Vikingelandsbyen, you can explore a reconstructed Viking Age setting and try out what life was like for people at the time. The grounds are accessible every day of the week and throughout the year. The houses are closed outside teaching hours; however, the grounds remain open and free to visitors to the forest. For special events or educational activities, it is advisable to check visiting arrangements in advance. This makes it clear that daily access to the grounds is different from the conditions for entering the houses.
Another Viking Age structure is Haralds bro: the reconstructed road and bridge route is 700 metres long. Its length and combination of two types of construction—a road and a bridge—offer a different, tangible aspect of the historical theme from the reconstructed living environment at Vikingelandsbyen.
Cycling, art and animals
At Hyldager Bakker in Kongsholmparken, there is a 1.2-kilometre mountain bike course described as intermediate. The course also includes a short skills section for practising cornering and pump track techniques, aimed at children and beginners. This short practice section therefore serves a different purpose from the intermediate course. Check local conditions before riding.
The sculpture “Thomas på Bjerget” also stands on a slope in Kongsholmparken. It is part of the artist Thomas Dambo’s “De seks glemte kæmper” project and is made from recycled wood. Alongside its cycle paths, the park is also a place to experience public art.
At ToftegĂĄrden, you can see horses, sheep, chickens, rabbits and other animals up close. The site is open to visitors every day; visiting conditions may vary from day to day. The animals kept there may also change over time.
Stage, cinema and seasonal outdoor pool
MusikTeatret Albertslund offers music, theatre, comedy, shows and dance. It also has two cinema screens showing current films on every day of the week. While the venue’s programme changes with the seasons, film listings are updated regularly, so check in advance what suits your visit.
For concerts and events spanning a wide range of genres, there is Forbrændingen: its programme includes rock, jazz, pop, metal and hip-hop, among other genres. Events here also change regularly. The two venues therefore have different focuses: MusikTeatret combines several performing arts with cinema, while Forbrændingen focuses on concerts and events across different musical genres.
Friluftsbadet Badesøen outdoor pool is a seasonal facility. Its features include a children’s pool, a swimming pool and pools with slides; there are also volleyball and ball courts, a playground and a café area. Check its current opening status before your visit.
Church history and riding opportunities
Herstedøster Kirke displays different construction phases: its nine-metre-long Romanesque nave was built from split fieldstones in the 12th century. The Late Gothic tower dates from the 15th century. Comparing them makes the building’s historical development directly visible, without assigning both parts to the same period.
Albertslund Ridecenter offers a riding school and riding for people with disabilities. If you would like to take part in an activity, check the participation requirements directly with the riding centre in advance.
