Pravčice offers travellers several clear points of interest: a historic centre with granaries, archaeological traces from widely separated periods, the Rusava and the Hliník pond. A 55-kilometre cycle route also passes through the town. When choosing a holiday apartment, it may be important whether you want to include local history, waterside scenery or a longer cycling connection in your stay.
Townscape and Cultural Monument
The historic centre includes a village green lined with granaries. Houses with exposed brick façades also stand in the centre and along the edges of the green. Granaries are therefore part of the green, while the brick façades also characterise its edge areas—two distinct architectural points of reference for viewing Pravčice. The Pravčice memorial cross is located beside the Rusava River and Road III/4322. It is listed in the Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments under registration number 23027/7–6104. The townscape thus brings together historic buildings and a memorial cross with a specific location; the river and road designation pinpoint the cross’s position.
From Prehistoric Traces to More Recent Local History
A multicultural prehistoric settlement site was excavated in Pravčice in 2007. It was inhabited from the Early Bronze Age, during the Věteřov group period, through to the later Roman Imperial period. The periods mentioned span very different eras. Later cultural and historical landmarks take a different focus: an electronic carillon was installed in the tower of St Florian’s Church in 1999. The “Muzeum zemědělské techniky našich dědů – Josef Netopil a synové” was officially opened on 25 May 2013. The two dates mark different events: an installation in the church tower and the opening of a museum. If you are considering a museum visit, check the current visitor arrangements in advance.
Routes and Waterside Scenery
The 55-kilometre cycle route No. 5033 runs from Kroměříž via Hulín, Pravčice, Količín, Holešov, Dobrotice, Jankovice, Chomýž, Brusné, Slavkov pod Hostýnem, Bystřice pod Hostýnem, Mrlínek, Libosváry, Všechovice, Kelč and Němetice to Hustopeče nad Bečvou. Pravčice is therefore on a route that connects numerous other places. If you are planning a ride, distinguish your own section from the total distance, and check the current route and route number before setting off. Pravčice is also part of the Forman Hippo Trails.
The Rusava flows through Pravčice. Broďák, also called Hliník, is the town’s only pond; Hájek, a remnant of floodplain forest, adjoins Hliník. The river, pond and woodland remnant are therefore clearly distinct: Broďák and Hliník are not two bodies of water, but names for the same pond, while Hájek lies next to it. For a landscape perspective, both the river’s course through the town and the relationship between the pond and the woodland remnant are relevant.
