Sudice lies in hilly terrain on both banks of the Sudický potok. The settlement extends through a hollow on either side of a stream. Three specific perspectives can help you plan a stay: the chapel as a landmark, regional architecture, and opportunities for hiking or swimming. This makes it possible to decide in advance whether you are more interested in the village’s appearance and history or would like to plan an outdoor activity.

A Prominent Landmark

The chapel on the village square is dedicated to Saint Medardus and is considered a characteristic, historically significant building in Sudice. It serves as a local landmark and is visible from the village green. If you use prominent buildings as landmarks, you will find a clear point of reference here on the village square, also visible from the village green.

Regional Architecture

Sudice belongs to the Horácká folk architecture region, in its local Dyjsko-Oslavská form. This classification places the local building style in a regional context; the name of the local form specifies the more precise classification. In the centre, the houses have floor plans and layouts that draw on the traditional local settlement type. The floor plan describes the layout of a house, while the layout refers to how the building’s structure is divided. Both terms draw attention to the structure of the houses, rather than solely to individual buildings. The regional classification and the described features of the houses are two distinct levels: one classifies the building style, while the other concerns the houses in the village centre. The Masaryk School building is also one of Sudice’s characteristic buildings; it dates from the first third of the 20th century. Regional architecture, local house forms, and a specific school building can thus be considered as different points of reference for exploring the built heritage.

History and Monuments

Sudice was first mentioned in 1101 in the founding charter of Třebíč Monastery. Outside Sudice stands a wayside shrine, classified as an immovable cultural monument under number 15645/7-3067. It provides a spatial contrast with the houses in the centre: the shrine is outside the village, while the houses are in the centre. The first documented mention in 1101 and the Masaryk School building from the first third of the 20th century offer two clearly distinct points of reference in time.

Hiking and Swimming

One hiking route follows a blue-marked tourist trail as well as forest and field paths. The marking and the different types of paths can help you assess the route when planning; look for the blue markings to find your way. There is also a small pond on the edge of Sudice where swimming is possible. The route and the pond offer different activities: for the hike, the route and types of paths matter; at the pond, swimming is possible. Check local conditions before swimming.
