In Lipník, a distinctive building, local customs and an agricultural landscape come together on a cycling route that passes through the village. The Church of St John the Baptist stands out on the village green; numerous ponds and woodland on the outskirts provide a contrasting landscape. For planning your trip, this offers two distinct focuses: cultural history and cycling.

Church on the Village Green

The Church of St John the Baptist is the distinctive building on Lipník’s village green and has an enclosing wall. It was originally built in the Romanesque style; a Gothic section was added later. This makes it possible to identify two successive building phases in a single structure: its Romanesque origins and the later Gothic addition. For travellers interested in architecture and local history, this development offers a specific point of interest.

Ponds, Woodland and a Historic Mill

The agricultural landscape includes numerous ponds, considered important features of the landscape. At the southern, southeastern and southwestern edges of the cadastral area, woodland connects to extensive forest complexes. The ponds therefore stand out as defining landscape features alongside woodland on specific sections of the outskirts.

Another historical trace lies about a kilometre beyond Lipník: the ruins of the former Kopyto Mill can be seen below Kopyto Pond. The mill had already been abandoned in the 19th century. Its location below the pond connects the history of the site with a specific feature of the pond landscape.

Festivals with Their Own Traditions

The Masopust procession is a Lipník tradition that continues without any known interruption. Today, it usually takes place on a Saturday during the carnival season. The Lipka Linden Festival begins with competitions for children and then moves on to a programme for adults. At the pilgrimage festival, proceedings usually begin on the Saturday before Pilgrimage Sunday with the raising of a maypole.

Each festival has a different focus: the carnival season sets the timeframe for Masopust, the sequence of events shapes the Linden Festival, and the maypole marks the start of the pilgrimage festival. If a particular festival is the reason for your trip, check its dates in advance.

Cycling Route No. 3: Route and Navigation

Cycling Route No. 3, “Into the Woods Behind Lipník,” passes through Lipník and is 35 to 40 km long. In Lipník, the route turns onto a long forest track. On the return journey, it follows the main road back to Lipník in the direction of Odunec and Zárubice. The long forest track and the return along the main road mark distinct sections of the route.

The forest pond Kapalice lies roughly in the middle of the wooded area and has a tourist rest stop. The stated distance describes the entire route, while Kapalice’s approximate location refers to the wooded area. This makes it possible to consider the overall distance, the section through the forest and the return journey as separate points of reference when planning your trip.
