Nový Telečkov lies in the eastern part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. A circular village layout, rare in the Czech Republic, shapes the village: the houses are arranged around the central village square. If you are planning a stay, you can explore the distinctive layout alongside the chapel, the monument and the trails in the surrounding area. Both the village’s history and the various opportunities for hiking, foraging and swimming are therefore relevant when planning your trip.
Village History and Places of Remembrance
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands in the centre of Nový Telečkov. It dates from 1832 and was consecrated on 28 October that same year. Above the village stands a granite monument bearing a family coat of arms, the Moravian coat of arms, several inscriptions and the motto “V rodu je síla.” The village’s history thus presents two distinct forms of remembrance: the chapel, with its precisely dated consecration day, and the monument, with its symbols and inscriptions.
Hradisko: Lookout Post and Ramparts
Another historical landmark is the nearby Hradisko site. The former castle site is considered a lookout post: in times of danger, a warning fire was lit there, visible from other castles. Double ramparts remain visible at the site. The function attributed to it and the surviving structures offer two different clues to the site’s past, without telling the same story: the warning fire points to its role as a lookout post, while the ramparts are evidence of visible fortifications.
Hiking, Foraging and Swimming
Visitors can hike and forage for mushrooms seasonally in the surrounding area. Swimming is also possible in a nearby, recently renovated pond; check access and swimming conditions locally. These activities have different focuses: mushroom foraging is seasonal, while you can plan a hiking route based on its course. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Trnava–Kobylince via Přeckov and Hroznatín to Nový Telečkov. Check the trail markings before setting out. This helps you distinguish the specific route from other activities in the area, rather than assuming that they all follow the same schedule or seasonal pattern.
Plan Your Journey and Accommodation Search
Two different travel options are described. From Oslavička railway stop, an approximately three-kilometre walk along the road leads west to Nový Telečkov. The village is also directly accessible by bus, but only on weekdays. The main difference between the options is the walk from the stop and the bus service’s weekday restriction. Check current timetables before your trip; you should also check the hiking trail markings before setting out.
When looking for a holiday rental or other accommodation, you can first decide what you want to shape your stay: the circular village layout and historic sites, the hiking route or activities in the surrounding area. Also consider how you plan to travel and whether the walk from Oslavička or the weekday bus service fits your itinerary.
